Battlestar Galactica is nearing the end of its run on television and it seems natural that someone out there might consider transitioning this thing to the big screen, especially considering the show’s rampant popularity among both fans and critics. So HR reports that Universal Pictures is working on a Battlestar movie. Except they aren’t using the version you saw on TV as the film’s basis. Nope, instead they’ve hired Glen Larson, the guy responsible for the original, extremely cheesy 80s version to make the film.
Larson has had very little to do with the new, much more popular version of his show. In fact he’s been just about the only vocal opponent to it. Unfortunately, Larson owns the movie rights to the franchise and for years now he’s been the road block standing in the way of getting a movie done. This news makes it seem that since he refused to budge, Universal threw up its hands and gave him what he wants since he, not the guy in charge of the current BSG incarnation Ron Moore, is writing and producing the new movie version.
So for those of you with dreams of seeing your current favorite BSG characters up on screen… forget it. Instead you’ll get a stupid robot dog and guys in shiny spandex, courtesy of Glen A. Larson. The movie version will have no connection to the series and by the mere fact of its existence erases any hope that the current, superior version of BSG will ever get its theatrical due.
Well, just like tlb said: Starbuck a man? The new Starbuck is horrible, and pls. don’t get me started with that feminist crap.
I don’t mind the new movie but we haven’t seen the new Star Trek yet so hold off on the JJ Abrams worship...BTW, HE MADE ‘CLOVERFIELD’.
So this "writer" is telling me that I didn't see the original BSG on TV? Guess I must have imagined it.
Only BSG I ever liked were the ones that featured Lloyd Bridges commanding the Pegasus. Anyone else remember those episodes?
Just leave Boxey and the Daggit out of it, they were hard to deal with then.
If a big screen production based on the original makes it, one thing I would like to see would be to bring back as many of the original cast memebers as possible in some form or fashion in supporting roles or in the background.
Between the new series and the Richard Hatch vision, I would have rather had Richard's.
Well, look at the positive. If RDM isn’t involved it means it’s more likely it will have a coherent, logical plot, rather than a bunch of “actors” running around being “gritty” among a morass of inconsistent illogical shark jumping.

Yep. The only two-parter in the original series, as I recall. The new show mangled the Caine character, too. That was when I lost interest in it.

Tom DeSanto’s version was pretty cool conceptually too.
Ronnie Moore’s angst ridden POS was complete garbage.
Unless Obama plays Admiral Adama and Barbara Boxer wears the Daggit suit of course.
He was at a long table with some woman a little further down. After me and my younger sister got his autograph, somehow we got hers too. We met our parents at the end of the table and they were laughing.
The lady was a Playboy playmate and the photo was G Rated. At the time, neither of us got it. I couldn't have been more than 8 or 9.
BJ was OK for the first few seasons. Manimal - no thanks. Buck Rogers S1 was OK but the radical shift in S2 killed it for me early on. Knight Rider to me was a mixed bag at best.
It took a while for me to like Magnum PI. Magnum came on before Simon & Simon and S&S was a big favorite.
Quincy on the other hand was and is one of my all time favorite shows. Even as a lad, Quincy held my interest. Quincy wouldn't stop until he had answers and got results. Another thing about Quincy was that he would go toe to toe with anyone when he believed he was right.
If the show had been about Caine, I would have watched it every week (the original.) Lloyd Bridges was my hero, as a kid. I wanted to be Mike Nelson. I ended up being a rescue diver because of Lloyd. of course, Roy and Johnny on Emergency! had a lot to do with it, too. They’re why I got into high angle rescue.

I hate with a purple rage the current crap on sci-fi. I’m glad that they will go back to ‘basics’ myself.

Well, if you watch the real Galactica, and not Battlestar 90210, the answer makes more sense.
In the original, the people of the fleet escaped the colonies, but were pursued by only a portion of the Cylon fleet, much of which was spread out looking for them. As the fleet got further away from the colonies, the size of the remaining Cylon force was more and more depleted.
Now, if you’re watching Battlesex Galactica, how can the fleet really escape, what with all the Botoxed-beyond-immobility former Playboy Bunnys, er, Cylons, intermingled into the fleet.
And I never got into the chick pilots. Starbuck is a dude. The women just need to look good.
