YOUR GOVERNMENT AT WORK Motorsports industry blasted by new fed rule Tens of thousands of jobs at stake, activists worry Posted: February 20, 2009

Members of the motorsports industry are wondering why the government has adopted a rule virtually eliminating a key constituency – and possibly thousands of jobs – while at the same time developing a nearly trillion-dollar stimulus that supporters say is intended to create and protect employment.

At issue is a new federal regulation of lead that took effect just this month. The policy has virtually shut down the part of the motorsports industry that serves children under 12 who want to ride all-terrain vehicles and motorbikes, because some components of the machines – such as tire valve stems – contain lead.

NASCAR types are not going to happy with this one. Wow! Now there is a march on Washington, eerr, I mean convoy to Washington. 250,000 pisked off hardcore NASCAR fanatics showing up on the White House lawn. (I’ll bring the BBQ and steaks) LOL

Of all the dangers to kids from riding motor bikes, eating the damn things is not even a faintly possible risk.

Liberals have absolutely no knowledge of the real world they seek to micro-manage and over-regulate. It is simple all about Power and Control.

This doesn’t apply to cars, but it’s not much of a stretch to see this rule applied to karts and quarter midgets.

Isn’t lead still used in engine bearings?

Childrens books printed before 1985 are busy being discarded at our nations libraries.

Yeah, but do you know any kid patient enough to disassemble an engine just so he can eat the bearings? ;)

I really don’t understand the appeal that Automobile racing, NASCAR or otherwise, has for people. No offense is intended with this. But I have better things to excited about, like my wife.

What an absolute lunatic waste of money and intrusion on freedom.

How many children have been hurt by eating their children's book? I dare say none.

But it's their well meaning intentions that matter.

Think of the waste. Think of the neighborhood yardsales where people have been recycling all kinds of thing that now will have to be just thrown away.

Couldn't this be considered anti-green or something? That would make the liberal heads explode.

And those are the best books .....older ones are the better ones for kids before the PC crap was institutionalized

This new legislation is so awful, I can't even count the ways.

Librarians are going through the Children's Books, to discard all the terrific pre-1985 books.

I don't see the draw about it at all myself, but my daughter, her husband and three children, ages 9, 7 and 5 all ride together as a family. It is a good sport that they thoroughly enjoy.
I guess that they could hang out at the bar and let the kids watch TV all the time. Is there lead i the TV chanel changer?

Probably, as well as, nickel, cadmium, copper, zinc and a whole host of other metals which are useful but harmful (only if taken in extremely large quantities over a short period of time.)

Mercury now that is one I personally don’t like, just keeps melting on me, darn it!

Nanny Staters are such an annoyance!!

Life is too short to worry about everything! Enjoy it, we will all die of something someday.
