As Republican whip, Mr. Cantor succeeded again on Friday in denying the White House the support of a single House Republican on the stimulus bill. That was a calculated challenge to the president, who, in his weekly address on Saturday, hailed the bill as an ambitious plan at a time we badly need it.
Mr. Cantor said he had studied Mr. Gingrichs years in power and had been in regular touch with him as he sought to help his party find the right tone and message. Indeed, one of Mr. Gingrichs leading victories in unifying his caucus against Mr. Clintons package of tax increases to balance the budget in 1993 has been echoed in the events of the last few weeks.
I talk to Newt on a regular basis because he was in the position that we are in: in the extreme minority, he said.
The Republicans can certainly count some victories, although symbolic ones. Even White House aides said Mr. Cantor and his team had been successful in seizing on spending items in the stimulus bill to sow doubts about it with the public.
The fact that House Republicans have stood firm against Mr. Obama suggests just how unified the caucus is, though Mr. Gingrich, in an interview, said Democratic leaders like Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Representative David R. Obey of Wisconsin, the chairman of the Appropriations Committee, did more to unify Republicans than anything Republicans did.
Id like to tell you Cantor did a brilliant job, but the truth is that Pelosi and Obey pushed the members into his arms, Mr. Gingrich said. But, he added, They have been good at developing alternatives so they dont leave their guys out there chanting no.

The time machine is broken.....RUN!
This is how the NYTimes signals to all other MSM outlets who to attack and dig dirt on.
So we have a nice Jewish boy from southern Virginia and a nice, eloquent and forceful blackman from Maryland (the rarest conservative in the state and on the Endangered Species list), leading a Republican and/or conservative renewal.
Brains, guts, eloquence, a vision for the future, and a willingness to clean the dead wood out of the GOP.
Do I see a future presidential ticket here? Now that would be diversity where the left claims it couldn’t happen.
Comments, anyone?
We’ll see where this is going when we see the faces who the GOP chooses to respond to the haloed one’s Saturday radio and web speeches. If we find people like Cantor, Jindal, Palin, and Pence and Kyl we’ll know the GOP is serious about this fight for our Liberty.
Proud to note that the FreeRepublic was the vanguard of supporting Cantor.
He looks stout.
“Brains, guts, eloquence, a vision for the future, and a willingness to clean the dead wood out of the GOP.
Do I see a future presidential ticket here?”
I’d pull that lever.
Yep, the Mother Ship has sounded the attack.
“Real Change”! Oh, that’s been done, sort of - not. Sounds like a plan.
We need to see substance. Fish or cut bate.
Micheal Steel/ Eric Cantor .... 2012 .... Micheal Steel/ Sarah Palin ... 2012 .... Sarah Palin / Eric Cantor 2012 ... Sarah Palin / Micheal Steel ... 2012 ... Eric Cantor / Micheal Steel / 2012 .... Eric Cantor / Sarah Palin 2012 ... works for me.
Viva la Resistance!
