I was wondering which seeds to buy in order to keep on hand in the event of a national meltdown. What's the longest shelf life I can expect if I just store them and hopefully never have to use them?
Wow! I just went to you link, and I’m totally sold. We just ordered our seeds....they’ll be shipped today. What a great site!
I’ve really been worried about them neutralizing the veggie plants so they won’t re-seed. It’s like the plot of a very scary sci-fi film.
Thanks for the link.
Oh, it was a PING to a Freeper. Sorry.
No wait, just signed up. Got it. I thought it was some kind of seed or plant, LOL!
I have a back-up generator and 50 gallons of stabilized gasoline. I suppose that if the power goes out forever, then I’m screwed.
Yep- it does seem surreal to even be thinking about survival

After a few years of doing that, I stopped planting them for about five years. I kept the seeds in a wooden box in my parents basement over this period. When I tried again, I got 80+% germination, about the same as when I had been planting every year. Germination rates and how long they will keep will vary with type of seed and the variety, but they have germinated seeds stored cool, dark, and dry for centuries.
INDEED.
