"Global warming, spurred by greenhouse gas emissions, has prompted governments to look for alternative energy sources. And renewable energies are gaining a foothold in Antarctica, despite problems in designing installations to survive bone-chilling cold and winter darkness."

The irony here just made me 'have' to post this as my first topic post. This is crazy, big time.

How green can that station really be when all supplies are flown in on a turboprop that spews tons of co2 getting there? And how about the human waste? Where's all that poop going?
That's just for a start. We can tie these progressive loons up with their own cord by applying their theories to them. And send Algore there for a green audit, and keep him there.

Well yes, except for those twin 20 kw emergency generators. They may be environmental extremists but they aren’t stupid.

Wellll, that they were having such a time installing alternative power generators to curb emissions that are causing warming, because it’s so bloody cold there. Idiots!
Or did I get hold of the wrong word?

I didn’t really read that into it. I’m not saying you’re wrong, however.

That’s what jumped out at me when I read this thing. ‘Global warming’ and ‘bone-chilling cold’ in the same paragraph.
Where’s the warming? Show me the warming?! :)

I don’t buy the agw crap, but I see nothing wrong with running solar and wind when they are viable. half the time, solar is useless, but wind could do pretty well. And yeah, they’ll have to have a backup hydrocarbon (or mini-nuke) source of energy.

Well yes, except for those twin 20 kw emergency generators. They may be environmental extremists but they arent stupid. Yeah, I was kinda wondering how all this green technology would work when the wind died down (as it must occasionally) during the long Antarctic winter twilight.
