A RANT, I'M DUE FOR ONE AND ENTITLED!
SELF | Feb 12, 2009 | swampsniper

Posted on 02/12/2009 3:47:25 PM PST by SWAMPSNIPER

I needed to get a prescription refilled today, so I made the trip to town. I figured to kill two birds with one stone, and headed for the Social Security office. I need to change my Medicare plan.

I was having one of my bad days, hips hurting, knees hurting, somewhat short of breath, and tired after trekking through Walmart. I also needed a restroom break, old bladders are demanding.

I entered the SS office to be met by the rentacop on duty. He wanted to know if I had any "weapons". I told him that my Swiss Army knife was in the car, I know how deadly those Swiss corkscrews are!

Next, "do you have a cellphone"? I told him it was turned off, and in my shirt pocket. He told me, "you can't bring it in here". The whole time this is taking place this pinhead is in a defensive stance, like he was facing Hulk Hogan in the ring. I know a bit about body language, this boy was looking for trouble.

I asked him if he would hold the phone, so I could use the restroom, sit down for a few minutes, and wait for a counselor. Nope, "you gotta get that phone out of here, put it in your car".

I honestly wasn't up to a round trip across that parking lot. I was due for BP meds and breathing therapy, and a handful of asprin.

I told him to f@@&in forget it, and left. I halfway expected him to call the real cops, he wasn't a happy camper, I didn't bow deep enough!

I've had it! When I go to the county courthouse I get inspected by a swat team. When I renew my drivers license, a Jackbooted thug looks over my shoulder. I'm not a sheep! I don't need herded.

I don't want county goons snooping around my homestead, taking pictures, or anything else, without my permission, If they can't see it, hear it, or smell it from the road, it's none of their business!

I know I'm ranting, haven't cut loose for a while, I figure I'm entitled. Next time some pinheaded pissant with Teeny Weeny Syndrome messes with me I'm going to see how far he wants to take it, I'm tired of backing down and walking away!

No, likely they don't want any surreptitious picture taking of your gubermint in action. And knowing Swampsniper, the pictures of rattus maximus would be really cool.

I think that since phones went from analog to digital they are no longer the threat they once were to equipment. I was told by hospital personnel that it is not the threat to equipment, but the nuisance factor that is keeping the signs up.

FWIW, in Albermarle Cty, VA the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court judges asked (ordered) us deputies to keep cell phones out of the court room because most phones can take pictures.

I don’t see why you can’t have a cell phone at a social security office.

I do...

They have only “recently” discovered the Iranian’s (for example) have developed extensive intelligence files on US facilities and their staffs.

Their operatives pose as US Citizens wander around gathering intel on potential targets freely.

One of their ways of becoming a citizen is to too “Woo” some US Citizen Female while she is in Mexico on vacation.. Posing as a well to do Iranian in Exile speaking of the horrors they suffered under the Khomeini Regime all manner of bull crap to get that US Citizenship.

One example of how they operate. they have been taking pictures of US Military Officer Cadets when they walk around on Campus in Uniform at Universities for the last 20 years. They have long established cells and work groups here in the US and in the major Mexican Border Cities. Workgroups where they have their US citizen agents purchase equipment and items from Military Surplus facilities here (US Citizens can purchase Military Surplus while foreigners are generally barred from doing so.) They then drive and deliver the goods to Mexico for transit to Iran.

So the choice is either to investigate, detain and prosecute these Agents of a Foreign Government conducting operations against the United States and her people...
or Take Grandpas Cell phone..

Which is easier?

Next time, color your lips purple, grow a beard and drap a towel over your head and they’ll offer you coffee and cake. Just my opinion....

I’ve been in many offices waiting rooms where you can’t use a cell phone. Then the guard and the receptionist loud talk for two hours.

This wasn’t about USING a cell phone, it was about just having one in my pocket. If they’d told me not to use it that would be fine, but, if they won’t trust me to keep my word on this, to Hell with them! I resent having to leave my little Swiss Army knife in the car, it is not a weapon, it is a tool. I’ve carried a pocket knife since I was eight, never attacked anyone yet.

We put up with a lot these days.

Every time I walk into a state courthouse, which is quite often, I have to show my ID card and they put that infra-red light thing on it to make sure its legit.

In the civil court, which is the lower jurisdiction court, they also look in my briefcase, even though i have the ID card.

In the federal courthouse, not only do i have to put my bag through the x-ray machine, and show my ID card, but I also have to check my cell phone. seems they think it can be used as a detonator.

I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

I can see where it might be a problem to have people taking pictures of witnesses in a courtroom, or outside a courtroom. Dangerous even. Very reasonable. But a Social Security office?

The "interference with electronics" story is really pretty silly. I have worked on electronic equipment that is used in hospitals and there are plenty of much stronger sources of RFI interference in a hospitals. Medical equipment is very carefully designed and tested to be able to withstand much greater levels of RFI interference than any cell phone can generate. The "no cell phone" policy is really just intended to reduce the annoyance factor caused by some cell phone users and their ring tones.

Not to mention, all the hospital employees seem to be able to use their cell phones without interfering with any equipment. ;-)

“In every bureaucratic system, the shifting of responsibilities is a matter of daily routine, and if one wishes to define bureaucracy in terms of political science, that is as a form of government - the rule of office as contrasted to the rule of men of one man or of the few, or of the many - bureaucracy unhappily is the rule of nobody and for this reason is for this reason perhaps the least human and most cruel form of rulership”.

Yeah, I have no clue about a good reason not to allow cell phones in an SS office.
