PLease pray for my daughter, Katie, who had a stroke and was rushed by helicopter to Cleveland for surgery. She is in her forties and has two children, one still in grade school. Since we live in different states, the information has been sketchy, but we do know that the stroke was a bad one.
Prayers up...
Loving prayers sent for your daughter.
Prayers up for your daughter. God’s love is with you all.
Been thinking about you today. Prayers continue for your daughter, her family and for you. (((Kate)))
Good morning, All. I don’t know what I would have done without you wonderful people. Freepers ARE the best! Your prayers have sustained us through this frightening time.
I couldn’t answer your requests for an update yesterday because Katie is in a hospital three states away from us, and we spent the day making long-distance phone calls without any results or news about her stroke. I knew only that she had been taken to the Cleveland University Hospitals instead of Cleveland Clinic as we were originally told, and was probably scheduled for surgery Tuesday evening, and that the doctor assigned for her the day of the stroke did not show up. That was scary because as you all know immediate care for a stroke victim is essential. Your continuing comments and prayers were a godsend.
Finally, my wonderful son in law called late in the day. Things are looking up. She IS getting good care in an ICU with each nurse assigned to only two patients. What they had been doing over and over and over is re-running all the same tests to make sure of the results. The doctor explained that her stroke is considered low on the scale of bad strokes, and that they don’t believe in rushing into surgery and installing a stent until they are CERTAIN of a patient’s condition.
I’m trying to keep this short, but I’m not succeeding, am I? Right now, they believe she needs medication and a long course of aftercare. Her voice is still slurring, and her left arm is weak.
My poor son in law must be exhausted. I asked if he’s gotten any sleep and he said he had a couple of hours on a 5 ft. cot. He’s 6 ft. 3 in. I expressed my sympathy to him, and he said simply, “It comes with the territory.” Thank you, God, for giving my daughter a loving, caring husband.
And thank YOU for all the kind, loving notes and especially for the prayers for Katie. I really don’t have the words to tell you how much you’ve helped us.
But, please know that I’m praying to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for each one of you.
I’m sorry to hear that. God be with her, her family, and you.
Sounds like better news, especially if she has one nurse to 2 patients when dad was on ICT Unit it was one to one for 2 days and then they down graded him to HCT so it was one nurse shared between 2 patients.
Prayers that her voice and strength to her arm return to something like normal and the OT and physical therapy assistance she will need will be tailored to her requirements.
I meant to say HDT (high dependancy) physically on the same unit but level of care not required as high.
Latest udate:
It now appears that surgery is not definitely off the table. Katie’s doctor reviewed the results of the last MRI, and says he won’t operate immediately, but she will have to take blood thinners and work with the physical therapists at the hospital for a few days. If she continues to improve, she can be moved to a therapist unit nearer her home for three weeks. After that, she has to go back to Cleveland so the doctor can do more tests and decide if surgery is necessary. He says she’ll be stronger then, and better able to get through surgery.
So, if anyone has a spare few seconds, I know you’ll pray for her continued improvement.
You bet we will Kitkat. I read about her this morning, and she’s been in my prayers.
Still praying for your daughter and family. It’s so very hard being so far away at this time...I’ve been there.
Be sure to keep us updated when you can.
Prayers for you, too.
Some good news, but prayers are still needed.
God bless you.
