UNICEF spokesperson Salma Hayek nursing a baby in Sierra Leone.
Hayek was in the West African country in September as part of her involvement in the fight against tetanus, one reason Sierra Leone has the highest infant and child death rate in the world.
But I'm guessing her humanitarian efforts won't draw as much attention as the "Nightline " television footage that showed Hayek breast feeding.
Bloggers, as expected, are going crazy.
There is a close enough view that I could count swallows! exclaimed Tanya on Motherwears Breast Feeding Blog, who was blown away that the scene was shown on network television.
Others were a tad cynical.
"Now heres a good way to call attention to your giant bosom while simultaneously saving impoverished children, wrote Buzzfeed.com senior editor Peggy Wang. Angelina who?
Whatever her motive, Hayek used her breasts as nature intended: She fed a hungry baby. For that she should be commended. If she also raises awareness that breast feeding helps build immunity, more power to her.
In fact doctors there say that because malnutrition is so rampant they would like to see women in Sierra Leone breast-feed for two years, wrote Kimberly Caplan on ABCnews.com.
But such behavior is rare. The reason? Men urge their wives to quickly stop breast-feeding because of cultural mores that forbid sexual intercourse with breast-feeding women."

Neonatal tetanus is a form of generalized tetanus that occurs in newborn infants. It occurs in infants who have not acquired passive immunity because the mother has never been immunized. It usually occurs through infection of the unhealed umbilical stump, particularly when the stump is cut with a non-sterile instrument. Neonatal tetanus is common in many developing countries and is responsible for about 14% (215,000) of all neonatal deaths, but is very rare in developed countries.
Immunization aside, sounds like a problem that can be solved by simply boiling the knife.

I’d rather not see that. Your comment really was funny though. It’s a commentary on the emphasis we males put on healthy milk dispensers.

Most definitely NOT real.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
