You are looking for a criminal with stolen weapons, possibly automatic weapons- the article doesn't specify-
Would you stand in the doorway with your hand on the doorbell? What would you leave your widow? The fact this wasn't the case this time doesn't mean you don't plan for it to be the case.

It is called conducting a thorough investigation and looking before you leap. Yes, it takes time, but it protects citizens and the police.

They should identify themselves first. The only two reasons I can really think of the need for SWAT is bank robberies and hostage situations.
If you don't want the risk then don't become a cop.
