"They hit the door right here and the door flew open," says Mike Hasenei, standing outside his Elkridge home.
His wife, Phyllis, was watching television with her 12-year old daughter when members of the Howard County Police Tactical Team came through the door.
"They had guns pointed at us. You have 25 guys coming in here all dressed in black and all that we saw were their eyes, and they're screaming 'Hands in the air!'"
Members of the team were acting upon a tip that an assault rifle, magazines and hollow-point bullets stolen from a marked police car the night before may be located inside.
Adding insult to injury, when the search led police to a back bedroom where they encountered the familys dog, they opened fire.
Officers found no evidence of the stolen goods after ransacking the house.
At this point a complaint has been logged against the department, but Howard County Police aren't about to admit they were wrong or to apologize for their actions.
"No. We didn't find a weapon in this particular case, said Sherry Llewellyn, a spokeswoman for the department, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't good information that there were weapons there before we had a chance to get inside the house."
Now, Mike Hasenei is waiting on an Internal Affairs investigation into the raid before deciding whether he and his family will take the department to court.
"I'm not gonna sit down and let people walk all over me and say 'sorry' and walk out of my house."
Yeah, I left a glass of Merlot on the floor and when I went to retrieve it, it was empty .... I knew I just filled it! It was when Roxie started sneezing that I knew where it went ...
“Had been.” Because things get moved, that could be why they didn’t find anything. I’m sure many a well evidenced/ informed raid has resulted in a dearth of contraband.
Not poking fun.
If this is so common I just wonder why no person I have ever known or heard of has been involved in such an event. You make your bed and lie in it.
If police didn’t get blown away when they act like nice guys and knock politely, then maybe we wouldn’t have this issue. It reflects the new crimes of a new time in our country. Perhaps treating the disease would alleviate the symptoms.
That is such a BS argument, it's ridiculous and you should know better. (Well obviously you don't)
I've never known anyone who was murdered, is that an uncommon event too? Same goes for rape and child molestation also. What say you?
Maybe the next thread regarding an incident like this will be about you. I'll be sure to crack remarkably stupid attempts at humor about your dog or maybe even your wife or child that got shot.
I'm sure you'll see it the same way then too. What an ass.
OK, cool guy. Thanks for the well wishes. No attempts at humor, but I’m glad you were humored!
To clear this up, since I see you still don’t quite understand: rape and child molestation harm people we all know because rape and child molestation are crimes in which there is an unwilling party. Drug crimes require willing parties. Those people put themselves in the way of violently served warrants as soon as they get involved with or hang around drug users, dealers, or smugglers. (Children and dogs, of course, have no choice in the company they keep, but I don’t believe that is the issue at hand.) I don’t know any of those people, and thus I don’t know anyone who has been unjustly served a warrant. I do, however, know someone who was murdered, so yes, I agree, it is a common occurrence among most societal groups. Sexual abuse is obviously present in every corner of our culture. So yes, Ron, it is common.
However, “raid” warrants are served to people who are implicated somehow. Think about it this way: it’s reversed airport security. This would be false, however, in a case of serving the wrong address. Yet again, that’s probably not what happened in this, or most other fruitless searches.
I believe if you were to pull up some stats on the frequency of childhood sexual abuse it would be significantly higher than the frequency of unjustly served warrants.
I hope this clears things up.
I certainly do not hope that you, your wife, child or dog gets shot by a policeman. I would guess there are some good Las Vegas(!) odds against that happening, though.
And with that, I’m finished with this conversation.
Maybe over there they could teach you how to read and comprehend what is actually said in a post.
Once again, it went way over your head.
Have good night.
