Absolutely right. If this "S" thing has to happen, God please let it be a "velvet divorce" similar to what the Czechs and Slovaks pulled off after the fall of communism. Once blood is spilled, all bets are off and it'd be an orgy of unintended consequences.
Better yet, I'd hope for a return to the United STATES of America rather than this modern notion of an Imperial, Omnipresent Federal Government bribing the states and its citizens with their own tax money. I think the only way to get there is to somehow make the FedGov and the left understand where this can end if they continue on this path.

I agree...ideally, we would go back to a limited federal government, and we all benefit. Then, if some states want to experiment and be laboratories for socialism, let them try (and learn the hard way, of course).
But it’s a long road either way.
