Advertising Age magazine is reporting that Kellogg is becoming the first company to drop Michael Phelps as a spokesperson because of a picture showing him smoking marijuana out of a bong.

The company also said it will not renew its sponsorship of the Olympic team, which expired in December.

Boycott Kellogg!

I went out and bought more now will make sure to purchase Kellogg products. Let the doped up swimmer speak for Obama or some 2nd rate company, not a company with high standards.
I don’t have a problem with anyone doing drugs if that is their thing. I have a problem of holding a druggie up to kids as a hero.

The founder of Kellogg was certifiably insane, and it seems like the company still is.

Kellogg wanted Phelps as their spokesperson because he won 8 GOLD medals. He owes them nothing more than that. That was his value to them and they got it.

Moreover Phelps does not owe your kids anything either. He is not paid to be their hero, their role model or their big brother.

I 100% agree with you. Nice to know breaking the law around here is acceptable behavior just because somebody is a “star”.

Mixed thoughts on this. On the one hand, he is a public figure now and kids look up to him as a role model. On the other hand, the history of professional sports is littered with the twisted remains of fame's shipwrecks. My first reaction was "Hadn't he ever heard of Nancy F%^ing Kerrigan?!" She incinerated all her endorsement checks with a few flippant comments. I then realized that that incident was over 14 years ago.
Ultimately, it comes down to consequences be they the results of an election or pulling a few hits when you think no one is looking.
