The LA Times today made fun of RNC chairman Michael Steele for saying It is time for something completely different in his acceptance speech. They write: It's hard to tell what he meant, other than that he is a different color. The same thing could be said of Democrats in this country and the election of the first African-American President. If Barack Obama were white, he wouldnt look all that different from any other liberal President.
The Times notes the disappointment to moderates hoping that the Republican Party would move to the center. If the Times were in touch with any real conservatives (not surprised that they aren't), they would know this isnt true. And, in fact, Steele is by no means an extreme right winger, supporting affirmative action and opposing the death penalty among other moderate positions.

QUEL BON MOT! NOT TO MENTION BEING RIGHT ON THE MONEY about the "Great Light Brown Hope of the RINOs." The RNC will now retire to the men's bar at their country club for another round of drinks and another ridiculous campaign.
Heard McCain 0n Hannity last night .... what a jerk. The Roofer was throwing him softball after softball and Capt. Alzheimer couldn't even manage a pop-up.
If our gentle new party leader can manage one thing .... which I doubt ... he should fight with all his might against the open primary system that gave us McCain
What an absurd comparison. Whitman is a fiscal conservative and a social liberal--in particular she is pro-choice.
Steele is a fiscal conservative and moderate to right on social issues. He opposes abortion and embryonic stem cell research. He is also opposed to the death penalty but that is not inconsistent with his Catholic background and it is a principled position--obviously not one he takes for political expediency.
Frankly, it appears that the primary litmus test for the Steele bashers is his support of affirmative action. Affirmative action has its problems and needs to be phased out. But, echoing the debate over the Iraq war, I don't believe that a timetable for withdrawal would be productive.
If affirmative action is the primary problem, I would suggest there might be far less Steele bashing on this forum if he were white.
If Barack Obama were white......
He’d be just one more two-bit, liberal lawyer in Cook county trying to make a name for himself in the Chicago political machine.....
Damn... right over target and pounding the enemy to hell... well done!

Steele, in his heart of hearts, is a damn good man. However, he is also a wimp who will cross the street to avoid a fight ... never mind fight ... he will cross 6 lanes of speeding freeway to avoid a scowl from a Democrat ... or heaven forbid, a reporter. Also, he thinks he's funny and can write TV commercials.
Personally pro-life .... the wimp is already out there trying to get "pro-choice" votes. The man is a mass of contradictions. OK, He's for Affirmative Action, but his strong stand on the issue didn't do him any good with Afro-American voters in MD. The Blacks went 90% ++ for his white nonentity opponent who looked like Barbara Mikulski in drag.
He IS like Kristy Whitman, in that he thinks dragging the party leftward will get us the Democrat and "Independent" votes we need to win. Ask John McCain and the RNC, "How's that workin' out for you?" .

If Barack Hussein Obama were not half African, and just another white Cook County Lawyer, another two-bit Cook County lawyer would have complained about his lies on his Illinois Bar Application the very first time they were on opposite sides of a case.
Barack Hussein Obama's handlers successfully marketed a very defective product. In this, they were aided and abetted by an unprofessional, ineffective, massively inept Republican Party.
“If affirmative action is the primary problem, I would suggest there might be far less Steele bashing on this forum if he were white.”
He is a supporter of Holder for AG. He is not strong on the 2nd amendment. He is at best a flaming moderate.
Good points. Unfortunately, it will just be tuned out by the Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the most conservative one of all purists here.
