Stephen Fowler will live in Wife Swap infamy as the most boorish and abusive of husbands ever to host a swapped wife. The day after this infamous episode the internet is howling. Why? Let me count the ways.
Liberal, upper crust, environmentally conscious, highly educated, weight appropriate San Franciscans were to swap wives with the Missouri small town ATV riding, paintball playing, overweight Middle Americans in the January 30th episode. The show in and of itself pairs couples that hold diametrically opposing views on just about everything from religion to politics to fish sticks; a recipe for conflict and emotional challenge in any situation. Nothing new there. However, the pairing on January 30th for the first time, added abuse to the mix. And that crossed line has gotten the audience into a stark raving tizzy.
Regular watchers know that most husbands on the show hold dearly to their viewpoints. Occasionally they are bombastic about it, but usually the audience member by the show’s conclusion is treated to a release, in that each pair learned something and all’s well that ends well.
In the case of the Fowler-Long swap, husband Stephen Fowler, a Briton, immediately trumpeted his education and intelligence as a license to demean all others he estimates as below him.

My GF was watching this show, but I could barely get myself to sit through it. It was pain, not entertainment. That little scrawny, America hating Limey deserves a punch in the mouth (or two). This is one of the best examples of liberal “tolerance” I’ve ever seen. It just proves that they love the concept of “people” as an abstract whole, but hate humanity on an individual level.
I checked out the posts and I do see what you mean. Actually, believe it or not, after seeing about 2 minutes of that program, I chose NOT to watch it (I have watched that program in the past) because I just didn’t think I had the heart for it. After reading all the posts and comments from other places, I am so thankful I did not demoralize myself that way. I would’ve probably gotten way too riled up.

Scratch plenty of elitist educated leftists and you won’t find much real compassion. Why do you think leftists revolutionaries inevitably wind up murdering so many people when they get into power and so many others shrug when other leftists they support wind wind up being murderous thugs. They care about other people the way a homeowner cares about their lawn. If they see too many weeds, they’re not opposed to ripping up the whole thing and replanting sod so it looks just they way they want it to.
What a scumbag! He really shows the ugly side of elitist mentality from San Francisco. Looks like he is now America’s most hated person right now. He must be enjoying is new found fame, infamy.
I don’t think I have ever wanted to punch anyone so much either, that guy was a rude jerk.
He he.... if I were him, I’d be really worried next time I ate in a restaurant and my server was, um, er “fat” and saw THAT show.
You know what’s funny too? Although the spelling is not correct, I know for a fact from studying English Lit that back in the day a lot of authors gave their characters names that were illustrative in some way of the person’s character or personality... meanwhile his name is “Fowler.” Well, how spot on is that??? And if we go back into sirname meanings, I wonder what a Fowler was... someone who caught birds?

Well, Fowler has joined the list of the reviled. That club is permanant and you cannot get out of it.
It’s interesting that so many people were so upset about this. I agree that this was just sadistic. Really sadistic. He is worried about his children’s education but I’d be far more worried about them being sociopathic like daddy.
Yeah. Fowler must have some personality problems. He sounds like he’s got problems of his own.

I’ve just finished reading all of the comments of ABC’s blog forum regarding the Wife Swap episode aired January 30th. There was the Fowler family, namely STEVEN FOWLER, from Britian I believe, refused to resite the Pledge of Allegiance, basically said all Americans are stupid, obese, and a waste of time. He treated the other family, home grown from Missouri, like dirt. He called her fat, stupid, redneck, and basically spit on the grounds of our great American Country. heatherinWA

I saw just a few minutes of this and it was difficult to watch the cruelty of this man. Still, it seems that his hatred was genuine, so why not put it on display for everyone to see. Aparently he wasn’t embarrassed by it.
It reminded me of that San Francisco meeting that obama had with the liberal elite, where he slammed midwesterners when he thought the mic was off.
I watched a little of it, too. I think the real loser is Mrs. Fowler, who had all these degrees in personal counseling, life coaching and development — yet the mister is barely housebroken.
It’s just lefties showing what they really are.
