Stephen Fowler will live in Wife Swap infamy as the most boorish and abusive of husbands ever to host a swapped wife. The day after this infamous episode the internet is howling. Why? Let me count the ways.
Liberal, upper crust, environmentally conscious, highly educated, weight appropriate San Franciscans were to swap wives with the Missouri small town ATV riding, paintball playing, overweight Middle Americans in the January 30th episode. The show in and of itself pairs couples that hold diametrically opposing views on just about everything from religion to politics to fish sticks; a recipe for conflict and emotional challenge in any situation. Nothing new there. However, the pairing on January 30th for the first time, added abuse to the mix. And that crossed line has gotten the audience into a stark raving tizzy.
Regular watchers know that most husbands on the show hold dearly to their viewpoints. Occasionally they are bombastic about it, but usually the audience member by the show’s conclusion is treated to a release, in that each pair learned something and all’s well that ends well.
In the case of the Fowler-Long swap, husband Stephen Fowler, a Briton, immediately trumpeted his education and intelligence as a license to demean all others he estimates as below him.

I don’t like these shows. If they want to switch spouses then that is their business. But I don’t like them using children as guinia pigs for general entertainment.

ABC and Stephen Fowler should be held accountable for the abuse they created toward this woman, and the for the anti American Statements Stephen Fowler said.
It is a TV Show, and this guy a self proclaimed Liberal, from England and Enviromentalist called the woman a dumb fat redneck., it is certainly not entertainment, and it is abusive.
This is America, and the Stephen Fowlers of this country are free to make as big a jackass of themselves as they wish, and then let the entire country know.

Somehow, I think ABC crossed the line in showing this show, it never should of aired. Oh sure it is just a TV show, but a TV show that has outraged plenty of ordinary citizens against this Stephen Fowler
. . and anyone who is on that silly show knows, or should know, exactly what they’re letting themselves in for. This is not the first time a lefty man has verbally abused a conservative woman. Let the participants beware from now on, as no one is forcing anyone to be on that stinker.

So let me axe you this:
Why would someone with such intelligence, education, blah, blah, blah, and blah sign up to do a reality show?
Isn’t it a tad odd for a member of the intelligentsia to make such a spectacle of himself on the boob tube? I mean really. This is in the same league as Celebrity Rehab or The Housewives of Orange County or Atlanta or Rhode Island or some such.
Or did the guy just need the cash, 50K isn’t it? That’s sort of chump change where I live.
Looks like he’s just an poseur. Or then again, that may be the rule for San Franciscan “elite.”*

I am so happy somebody is posting this here. I happened to catch a few minutes of this show because I was surfing channels for a moment and I was floored. If this guy isn’t the poster child for the Left, I don’t know who we’d pick.
I actually enjoy watching Wife Swap. I only saw parts of that episode. Fowler is a real tool. Most of the time, it does not hit that level what Fowler did. I am sure his business will be in the tank.
It is something you had to witness to realize how abusive and sick this man's thinking was. A self proclaimed liberal, anti-American, egotistical elitist that had no soul.
Well, people like him are simply upperclass bigots trying to mask their class-based bigotry with political issues, simple as that. Once you understand that, you understand them.
And then you feel superior. :-)
Sixty years ago he would have been the mansion-dwelling foil in some Three Stooges cartoon. He would have walked into the foyer to check on the painting work he hired the stooges to do, and gotten a pie in the face or something.
Fowler is a conservationist, but his wife is a weight counselor and he was calling the visiting woman in his home Fat , stupid, redneck. He would not even let his children talk to her.
If only a pie had hit his face, if only.
Unbelievable? Not really. This is the inner world of most elites - they are far smarter, wittier, more adept and so on than the rest of us which is why we need them to tell us what to do.
From reading the various comments on the show (I saw maybe 2 minutes), it appears that this man had used this woman as an example to his children as to why they should get their education. Education has become a god to these kind of people and I’d rather have a poor and/or uneducated KIND and LOVING person in my world any day over the likes of this kind of person. I have a feeling this is going to come back to bite him. If he’s a businessman, there might be a lot of people out there eager to no longer do business... I’m thinking of anyone who might be overweight. Too bad that lady didn’t have the wit of some of the people I know...
