Oboma's resume
email | William Silverthorn

Posted on 01/31/2009 1:07:19 PM PST by AgThorn

Having some interesting bantering with an Obama supporter, who sent me this 'resume' of all that he has accomplished:

• Obama has served 12 yrs at the federal and state level (4 yrs US Sen + 8 yrs IL Sen) • Obama sponsored 823 bills and cast over 4000 votes in the IL Senate • Obama co-sponsored 15 bills that became federal law and co-sponsored 570 bills. These bills and laws are an impressive accomplishment spanning foreign policy, public health, openness and accountability in government, national security Of the 570 bills Senator Obama introduced into the Senate during the 109th and 110th Congress: 25 addressed Energy Efficiency and Climate Change 21 addressed Health Care 20 addressed Public Health 14 address Consumer Protection/Labor 13 addressed the Needs of Veterans and the Armed Forces 12 addressed Congressional Ethics and Accountability 10 addressed Foreign Policy 9 address Voting/Elections 11 addressed Education 6 addressed Hurrican Katrina 5 addressed the Environment 4 addressed Discrimination 4 addressed Homeland Security

I thought I would see what meat any of you had with all of the 'above accomplishments'. Admittedly, this is the first 'list' I have seen someone put together to make this man look quite accomplished. I do know that 3 of his 4 years in Washington were spent campaigning, so that is easily knocked off .. but the 'Illinois' years I was hoping for some feedback/comeback/real data from someone here ... or validation, if the list stands as is ... which I doubt.

Regards!

and how does he 'introduce' 570 bills when he is never there?

If you do a little more digging, you will find that the leader of the house or senate in Illinois put Obama’s name on all the bills that were in the legislature at the time. Many of the congressmen were really put out about this, because they had worked hard on the bill, only to have it handed to Obama, as he was the favorite son in the legislature. Maybe someone who knows more about this can shed some light on it, but as usual, he did nothing, but was there to take all the credit.

As far as I can tell, his only accomplishments were that he put a job center in the ghetto in Chicago, which is a pretty easy, non-controversial accomplishment, and he had some asbestos removed from some public housing.

Just because he signed his name to a stack of crappy legislation pushed in front of his nose by his ‘superiors’ doesn’t mean he did anything important. As for his other legislation that he takes credit for, it is no doubt that someone else floated those bills as well and just had him be the lead lackey. It shows how much he was controlled and told what to do.

I think the ONLY legislation he introduced in IL that actually passed was a special day of recognition for a Chicago Islamic Center.

No lie. Easy to check. I just don’t have time right now to do it again :)

4,000 votes, but how many of those were votes for “Present”.

Plus ALL of his Illinois State Senate records are conveniently “lost”, so we will never know the nuts and bolts of exactly how he legislated in Illinois.

That would be "Emil Jones"

This list indeed needs debunking. Unfortunately, I have no source data to do so.

I do recall reading that Obama never really voted for or against anything while in the Illinois Senate. If I recall correctly, all he ever voted was “Present”. One wonders.

Personally, I don't believe Obama has done anything in his entire life. There has been a concerted effort to make it look like he has done work. But he is completely hollow.

The information you posted is from DailyKos. Correction as to Obama’s US Senate was only 2 years. He said he was not qualified to run for president when he was elected to the senate but he did a sharp about face.

One of the bills Obama introduced was a Muslim Holiday for Illinois. It didn’t pass. Many of Obamas votes are for welfare programs or government control.

My understanding is Obama only had 3 pieces of legislation pass. Two were in the Illinois senate and one US Senate. Some others he voted for and then took credit for them during his campaign. I think Obama got aid to Africa on one of his bills.

Obama said he passed temporary assistance for low income families and he was one of five sponsors. On a cut taxes for working families in Illinois he was only a cosponsor but he took credit for that also during his campaign. Obama claims health care for wounded troops was his but he was not even a cosponsor on H.R.4986.

During Obama’s campaign one of Obama’s team was on CNN. He was asked just what Obama had done in the Illinois senate and US senate to show he was capable of leading. That everyone said Obama had not passed one bill. Obama’s man said thats not true, he passed campaign reform bill that will stop lobbyists.

We see how well that worked with Obama and his 12 lobbyists on his team right now. Or the millions Obama has raked in from lobbyists.

A writer can write a 100 books, the only ones that count are the ones published. Obama took credit when he voted or signed onto a bill. Obama basically signed onto someone else’s homework.

As far as I know Obama was paid really well for Illinois senate and then bowing out 2 years into his US senate seat for doing nothing.

And Gore invented the internet.

Bulls**T. This loon can barely write his own name. Find me something he has actually written (and his “biographies” are most certainly not written by the loon).

“Obama and Me” Dallas Morning Observer Feb 28, 2008

“...”He said, ‘Cliff, I’m gonna make me a U.S. senator.’”

“Oh, you are? Who might that be?”

“Barack Obama.”

Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills...

“Raising Obama” Vanity Fair March, 2008

“...Now, with Jones elevated to the senate presidency, Obama was approaching him with a cold-eyed proposal.

“After I was elected president, in 2003, he came to see me, a couple months later,” Jones recalled, relishing the tale. “And he said to me, he said, ‘You’re the senate president now, and with that, you have a lot of pow-er.”

Jones stretched out the word, as if savoring the pleasure of it, and his voice became very quiet as he continued: “And I told Barack, ‘You think I got a lot of pow-er now?,’ and he said, ‘Yeah, you got a lot of pow-er.’ And I said, ‘What kind of pow-er do I have?’ He said, ‘You have the pow-er to make a United States sen-a-tor!” Jones let out a soft, smoky laugh. “I said to Barack, I said, ‘That sounds good!’ I said, ‘I haven’t even thought of that.’ I said, ‘Do you have someone in mind you think I could make?,’ and he said, ‘Yeah. Me.”

If I remember right, I read last year Obama took credit for the asbestos removal. It wasn’t Obama but some other person who did it

Emil Jones Jr. helped Obama master the intricacies of the Legislature. When Democrats took control of the state Senate, Jones, though he risked offending colleagues who had toiled futilely on key issues under Republican rule, tapped Obama to take the lead on high-profile legislative initiatives that he now boasts about in his presidential campaign.

Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.

During his seventh and final year in the state Senate, Obama's stats soared. He sponsored a whopping 26 bills passed into law -- including many he now cites in his presidential campaign when attacked as inexperienced.

It was a stunning achievement that started him on the path of national politics -- and he couldn't have done it without Jones. Before Obama ran for U.S. Senate in 2004, he was virtually unknown even in his own state. Polls showed fewer than 20 percent of Illinois voters had ever heard of Barack Obama.

And when Obama wanted a promotion to the U.S. Senate, Jones provided critical support that gave the little-known legislator legitimacy, keeping him from being instantly trampled by the front-runners.

"He's been indispensable to Barack's career. He wants to see a black president before he gets called home," said fellow state Sen. Rickey Hendon, a Democrat.

So how has Obama repaid Jones? Last June (2007), to prove his commitment to government transparency, Obama released a comprehensive list of his earmark requests for fiscal year 2008. It comprised more than $300 million in pet projects for Illinois, including tens of millions for Jones's Senate district.

Shortly after Jones became Senate president, I remember asking his view on pork-barrel spending. I'll never forget what he said: "Some call it pork; I call it steak."

More details at Obama, State Senator

A big question: If Obama did so well in the Illinois Senate, how come Obama's Illinois State Senate records and schedule are nowhere to be found?
