Vicky White cradled a pink towel near her chest with the utmost care. She held out the tiny package as she pulled gently on a corner of the towel to reveal the limp and bloodied body of her 5-year-old Chihuahua, Piper. The brown-and-white dog - which weighed about 3 pounds - was killed Tuesday morning on its patio by a neighbor's pit bull and a Labrador retriever in the area of 30th Street East and Avenue H.
"The whole front page is always 'pit bull attacks; pit bull attacks,' and we always say, 'Oh those poor people, those poor, dear people, how sad for them,' " White said, her voice breaking.
She added, "I'd rather have a big vet bill than a dead dog."
White had returned home Tuesday morning from another property she owns when Piper was attacked.
White said she had her hand on the Chihuahua when it was grabbed by the pit bull.
"It was horrible; it was like a nightmare from hell," she said.
White said she used a stick to try and save Piper but to no avail.
"They came in my yard, ripped my dog out of my hands and killed her," she said, crying.
She praised her other dogs in the yard - a yellow Labrador retriever and a mixed breed "pound puppy" - who fought off the animals.
The dogs had small splotches of blood on their coats but no visible injuries.
"We've lived here 31 years, and for 31 years we've had people that we've had problems with because they don't keep their dogs in," she said.
White said the dogs that killed Piper jumped over the 6-foot-high chain-link fence that separates her yard from her neighbor's property.

Wth?
A Lab? I call BS
Check that, Remington Golden Sabers
If you have Golden Sabers I doubt if you have a Chihuahua.
Labs are generally more mellow. A lot of pit bull owners do, unfortunately, get them due to their inbred aggressive traits (not all pit bulls, I know there are some happy pit owners here). A person who wants an aggressive dog can train any breed to do something like this.
Lol. I guess I should take that as a compliment.
Don’t be so quick on that one.
This is the high desert.
No doubt the pit bull put him up to it on a dare of some sort.
I’m sorry that this woman lost her beloved pet, but her recounting of the circumstances don’t make sense. Neither a pit bull nor a lab can jump a six foot chain link fence. Climb it, maybe, but not jump it. And, doing so to make a beeline to snatch the little Chihuahua from the woman’s hands? For no reason at all?
She doesn’t sound as if she’s being entirely truthful. Why, I don’t know.
those things can be real irritating and nippy and they’ll go up against bigger dogs, maybe the pit and lab were provoked.
I hear story after story like this! Is there something in the water?? All the dogs in the country seems to be turning vicious!
Per the story at the link, Ms. White says the two dogs climbed a pile of wooden pallets higher than the fence, and jumped.
Deputies say her gate was wide open, though.
The two dogs are also described by deputies as being a pit bull and “more of a labrador type,” that are not people aggressive.
Something is not being told, here.
She said there were pallets of wood on the neighbors’ side of the fence, and the dogs climbed up on those.
There was a guy that brought his dog out to my local dog park and he would throw the ball intentionally over a 4 ft and 6 ft something fence and watch his dog go over the fences and get the ball.
This is not news... ala Man Bites dog is news, while dog bites man is to obvious and common to be news.
“Chihuahua jumps fence and kills Labrador Retriever and Pit Bull”
THAT would be news.
My dog got attacked by one lab in my neighborhood on a walk. Another time it chased me and my dog into some guys yard and was going to try and attack again till I found a stick. I have called animal control on them twice. There is golden retriever type dog in my neighborhood that goes nuts every time I walk past it. I am so thankful that it is getting older and can’t jump the fence it is behind.
The littlest dog’s sometimes can be the most unbalanced. My last neighbor had some dachshund’s and one of them bit me, a couple of their friends and their little kid! My new neighbor has some small dogs and their always yapping like they are big shots. I have also seen some small dogs at the dog park that play on the big dog side and push some big dogs around.
You can buy sonic dog repellents. They are used for training. If it’s a continuous local problem it might be worth it. More than one dog is a problem like that, do you live in a city?
