That is hard to believe. I recall reading there was Native American trade up the Mississippi from the Gulf to as far (at least) as Illinois.

Those old Caddo left mounds all over East Texas. There are (or were) some just north of Texarkana, in the bottomlands near Water Works Lake. We kids called them “ghost mounds” and never went near them, since they were supposedly haunted.
Given all the construction work going on in that area these days, my guess is that any mounds that were there probably were flattened and graded.

They were obviously concerned about global warming.
We owned a lot of land north of Longview when I was young and I remember we had many of these ‘mounds’ where you could find arrow heads around them (I wouldn’t be surprised if my parents still have boxes of my finds somewhere). I don’t think any of us understood the implications of what was on our land. Sadly, most of this land is now developed, but the way it sloped, all the mounds may have been preserved under fill dirt.
