The mother of infamous Branch Davidian sect leader David Koresh has been stabbed to death, and Koresh's aunt was in custody on a murder charge yesterday. Bonnie Clark Halderman, 60, was found Friday at the Texas home of her sister, Beverly Clark, in a rural area near Chandler, Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt said. "It's still under investigation, and we really don't know what the motive was," Nutt said. In 1993, a standoff at the Branch Davidians' compound outside Waco ended when the complex caught fire and burned to the ground, killing Koresh and nearly 80 of his followers.

    60? Don't think so.
David Koresh (aka Vernon Howell) was born August 17, 1959. According to the linked biography, his mother was 16 at the time, making her 65 or 66 now.

At the end of the day, Koresh was a nut. That didn’t give the clinton admin the right to burn them to death, but he was a nut.
So his family are nuts too. Not really surprising

Wouldn't any normal person (let alone a copy editor) bother to use a little commonsense, and consider that a cult leader who died 15 years ago probably didn't have a mother who was now 60 years old? My instant reflex was to check the dates of birth.

Pretty simplistic and sanitary explanation for what took place at the home headquarters for a church. The deaths included women and children and all of the deaths were completely unnecessary.

What a revolting comparison by that deranged icon of the media-industrial complex, Time. Koresh was a bad guy, but I have yet to hear of his followers blowing up a pizza parlor, beheading helpless captives, crashing a hijacked airliner into a skyscraper full of innocent people, or passing out candy when somebody else did.

I agree. That is a poor comparison.

    Waco was a real-life, modern-day
Salem Witch Hunt! I don't remember anyone asking Eric Holder any questions about Waco?

Totally. Horrible stuff. But I’m just saying that Koresh obviously thought he was some kind of messiah, so I’m not surprised that some people in his family are nuts
