That Hiibel case was only upheld because Nevada has a “stop and identify” law. Only 23 states have similar laws. We are only a little less than half way to a “papers please” country. Warms the heart doesn’t it??
Maybe I’m obnoxious, but at least I know my rights as a citizen of this Country.
You and your acceptance of illegal tyranny make me weep, thinking about what is ahead for our Republic.
Seriously, be offended by my comments. I don’t care.
But please be open-minded enough to accept that you might be wrong in putting complete trust in others to do what is right.
It is not about having nothing to hide. This is about freedom and our right to be assumed innocent.
If you do not want to be told the truth, or hear others opinions on why they think you are wrong, please don’t respond.
Again, this site is called FREE REPUBLIC. I am not trying to be “juvenile”. I just wish you would look up what that really means.
A good morning to you Aurorales.
“Cindy” is basically telling you what you “must” do.
The way I interpret the posting of the link is, “do this”.
It is a lack of understand the difference of the words:
“should” and “could” and “have to”.
My thoughts:
Your town/city/state requires its citizens to produce an ID if they’re in an accident — even as passengers.
As it is YOUR town/city/state, it’s up to you to lobby against the rule if you don’t like it.
“It was/is the responsible thing to do.”

You didn’t say that in you first responses.
“responsible” is very different from “mandatory”.
This is a red flag issue for many FReepers. You have to know that.
It might be responsible to you to carry ID. I understand that.
But it should not be (is not in most states I know of) mandatory to have it, if you are not doing anything that requires the ID.
Good morning to you too.
You were right. The cop was wrong.
The state police used to pull me over regularly when I drove to work on back roads at 2am. I finally had to make a stink to get them to leave me alone. I don’t know if they were just bored or if they just liked hassling people.
In the UK the cops are now going door to door to see what you are eating!

Why did the cop assume he was lying about his name?
I am subject to regular credit checks (once every few years) and criminal background history investigations. I am not complaining about the need for this. However, "word on the street" (for what its worth) indicated that a long-time employee was terminated due to "demonstrated unreliability". His legal history? Many unpaid tickets for riding a motorcycle without a helmet.
Every 5 years I have to re-take the MMPI (a psychological exam). Again, I am not complaining about the need for this. But here is a link to website petition to require presidential candidates to take the MMPI:
http://www.petitiononline.com/obamapet/petition.html
And here is an informal evaluation (using what scant info we have) of Obama's personality:
http://209.85.173.132/search?q=cache:TM3cEMXLHKEJ:www.faithfreedom.org/obama.html+faithfreedom.org+understanding+obama&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a
Its a cached copy because the faithfreedom.org website seems to be "down" at this time.
Very interesting reading.
Anyway, freedom is a tenuous thing. And Washingtonians believe the rules apply to others, not themselves.
I would have asked her, really, even my 2 year old who was in his car seat in the back??? Have they lowered the driving age recently???
I honestly don't understand all the people on here who support some little civil servant with a Napoleon complex making up arbitrary laws as they go. I don't care if she just came from a horrendous head-on collision. Know the law, if that is what you are paid to do, let the legislature write the law.
Rights are like muscles, you need to exercise them or they atrophy.
FR has too many Republicans and too few conservatives.
The government is held to a different standard, we have a Bill of Rights, at least theoretically it seems.
I knew a cop who loved to tell people “I am the law”.
He got kicked off the force just a few years after being hired. Thank God.
Our rights are supposed to protect us from everyone. That includes law enforcement and our elected leaders.
It is a slippery slope. When we let a few small infringements go by, because they seem minor, we leave the door open for crooks to steal the rest.
It was great that you stood up for yourself. It is none of anyone’s business why you were driving at 2am. We need to follow your lead and all say “enough is enough”.
“FR has too many Republicans and too few conservatives.”

I’m seeing that now. Sad.
I wonder if they understand the difference?
As for the bootlicker part. I find your mentality no different than Code Pink's.
Don't taz me, dude!
seems to me, the reason we allowed Leos to have tazers to begin with was crackheads and perps running around with knives that needed to be controlled safely from a distance for officer safety. So now, it's somehow progressed to tazing for being a 'jerk'??? Seems our Leos need to review the reasons tazers were authorized and keep them holstered except for extraordinary circumstances, instead of using them as a substitute for communication and patience. What the citizens voted for, they can vote against just as easily. imo jmo moo
Why did you presume that the cop assumed.....?
I surmise you should realize that things ofter are seldom what they seem.
