MOUNTAIN HOUSE With some quick thinking and a little bit of salami a multiagency effort to capture two aggressive pit bulls roaming a neighborhood was successful.
Around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, a woman called San Joaquin County Animal Control saying two pit bulls were terrorizing a child care business she runs out of her home on Adams Street while parents were trying to drop off their children. With the closest unit in Lodi, animal control called Station 98 in Mountain House asking if the firefighters there could assist until more help arrived, according to an incident report.
Before leaving the station, firefighters searched around for something to distract the dogs with and found a package of salami in the refrigerator, Division Chief Andy Kellogg said.
When they arrived, firefighters found two pit bulls running aggressively toward a woman who was getting into her car. The dogs were scared off and ran around the corner onto Felicia Avenue, where they began charging toward another man getting into his car. The firefighters distracted them with the sliced salami, according to a report filed by Captain Dan Havicus.
"Every once in awhile the dogs would run aggressively toward anyone they saw," according to the report. "We told several citizens to hurry and get in their cars. We distracted the dogs while one family unloaded their children."
When San Joaquin County Sheriff's Deputy Karen Sangster arrived, she got out of her vehicle to try to lure the dogs into the back seat of her cruiser, but Havicus got on a loudspeaker to warn her not to get out before she was quickly chased back inside by the dogs, Kellogg said.
After finally getting the back door of the cruiser open, Kellogg said he took the last slice of salami from the fire crew and drove it over to Sangster, who then threw it into the back seat of her vehicle. As soon as the dogs jumped in, Kellogg drove up, stretched his arm out his window and slammed the door behind the dogs.
"I've handled some bizarre stuff," Kellogg said. "This was one of those strange career calls. We don't usually get calls about enraged pit bulls."
The dogs were turned over to animal control.
An animal control spokesman said the dogs were impounded and are currently being held in Stockton. It was unclear who they belonged to.
My Pit Bull likes pork rinds...
How about a 357 Magnum?
Fidel and Charo [my Chihuahuas] love balogney and cheese.
Salmon mousse...
How about some lead to slow them down.
Plain old hotdogs. The cheaper the better. Dogs can’t resist those.
Dogs will eat anything. The stinkier the better. Pit Bulls are most attracted to body parts of small children.
A .357 works great, but for in a crowded neighborhood I’d suggest a plain old pitchfork.
Send them to Cesar. I’m sure he’ll turn them into big dumb content grinning pups like Daddy in no time.
