North Carolina State's Kay Yow, the Hall of Fame women's basketball coach who won more than 700 games while earning fans with her decades-long fight against breast cancer, died on Saturday. She was 66.
Yow, first diagnosed with the disease in 1987, died Saturday morning at WakeMed Cary Hospital after being admitted there last week, university spokeswoman Annabelle Myers said.
"I think she understood that keeping going was inspirational to other people who were in the same boat she was in," Dr. Mark Graham, Yow's longtime oncologist, said Saturday.

Condolences from all Tarheel fans!
She was an inspiration to many. Godspeed Kay Yow.
Cancer is a sneaky, ugly disease. What she went through recently should make all of us who are cancer survivors doubly attentive to any hint of it popping up again.
We NCSU Wolfpackers will miss her!
Sad to hear. RIP, Coach Kay. Her sister is the AD at Maryland.
She just recently announced her retirement. Kay Yow continued her life’s work, work that she loved, right to the end. She really has been an inspiration.
Thanks for posting. I just saw a very nice tribute to her on ESPN. Condolences to Kay Yow’s family and friends.
This UCONN Husky fan will miss this wonderful coach and fine woman. Godspeed Kay
The epitome of grace under pressure.
Godspeed.
Awwww. She was awesome.
Glad she’s no longer suffering.
I know her family, freeplancer. You’re being especially vile, hinting around about something she never threw in anyone’s face, if true.
Yes, she sure did...living and loving life as we all should.
Don’t start, freeplancer! You know nothing about her! She was a dedicated Christian and coach to the women who played basketball for her! She probably wanted to get married but some men are not worth the effort.
Oops! I swear I only clicked on “post” once! The message bears repeating, though.
Her life was about more than wins and losses. Her life was about investing in people, and hoping they came away better as a result of her pouring into them.

Can you say you will be remembered so fondly by so many when you pass?
