Well, I too must admit I am excited about Obama. It is a great testament to the growth of our country. He is our president and I will stick by him and hope we can make progress out of these disastrous economic times we are all facing as a country.
However....
My fear is that we all bought hope high and sold reality low. Ultimately words can only go so far. Obama has given many of us hope. When he talks we all show up and we all feel better. We all get gitty in fact, for lack of a better word. He is perhaps the greatest orator of our time.
Sooner or later however, we will begin to measure him against reality and the words will be treated as just that - words. What concerns me is the almost cult-like mindset I see from the masses, broadcast all over the media, blogs and social networks. Let me provide some examples.

The economy was fine in 2006 before the Democrats took control of Congress. This was before operation Fannie/Freddie/CRA kicked in by the Dems.
“gitty”???
to all...
I’m not greg. he is an o’l friend of mine. I told him that he needed to take his questions and thoughts to the Freepers for a good interaction and debate.

The only thing I’m questioning is the word “gitty”. I have a feeling that the author actually meant “giddy” but it took me a while to get there.

gitty???
Suppose he meant “shitty”
Hmmmm.....hadn’t considered that possibility.
Completely unrelated aside - when I was kid, we had a friend named Dick Benedict - called him “Eggs” of course - what a great memory...
Heh. When I was a kid we had a guy whose last name was Newton. Of course, his nick was “fig.” And it sure fit him!
With all due respect to your friend, I submit if he looked all around him he wouldn't see me there, much less gitty about the thing. I will grant him "cult-like" behavior, though.
People whose thinking doesn't get much more complex than the crudest of symbology must have their heroes and villains to survive mentally in a world that holds precious few of either in reality. Bush was a necessary devil for them, Obama a necessary angel - theirs isn't a Manichaean world, it's simply a model too stupid and crude to allow for anything else. These tend to be, ironically, persons claiming to appreciate the world in shades of grey. Black and white, I suppose, are shades of grey but I'd like to think there's a little middle ground there as well.
Nevertheless, it explains a good deal of the notion that "not-Bush" was enough to warrant a vote. If you project everything evil in one direction it simplifies the search for everything good. Children, small animals, and liberals do this, but there I repeat myself.
I'll bet.
