An animal rescue group I belong to just took in a beautiful little dog named Candoo (he was hit by a car a couple of months ago, but the family he was living with at the time never bothered to take him in for treatment of his obvious broken leg....about a month after the accident, they finally turned him over to the humane society and received a citation for neglect. Even with only 3 functioning legs, Candoo has a "I don't give up" spirit, so that's why our group gave him that name....don't tell Candoo he "can't do" anything!).
Anyway, Candoo was scheduled to have his front left leg removed yesterday. This past weekend, he became quite ill and had to be placed into a local emergency animal hospital. Here's the updates I just got from our rescue group president today:
" After spending two nights in the emergency room, one night at his foster home, and one night at the Veterinary Clinic, Candoo is being sent back to his foster home without having had surgery. The doctor reports he feels Candoo has a severe gastro-intestinal infection and is on medication. He seems to feel much better today and will be sent back with medication. If all goes well, he'll have his surgery sometime next week. The expenses for him continue to mount up even though the surgery has been put off. I'm sure Candoo will be glad to be back in his foster home though."
Then a couple of hours later, this update came through:
" Candoo was on his way back to his foster home when he got sick again so he's back at the Veterinary Hospital. "
I e-mailed her back & told her I would be sending more prayers up. This was her response:
" Better send a lot. Vet says it's time to think about how far we want to go here with no idea of what's wrong and no guarantee he'll get well."
Could you please say some prayers for Candoo? He deserves so much more than some family letting him get hit by a car, left to suffer in pain for more then a month with no medical treatment, and now that he's in loving foster care, this happens?
Our rescue group will do whatever we can to help this little guy get better, and then find him that special forever home that he deserves! Please just keep in him your prayers if you wouldn't mind...
Thank you, my FReeper FRiends!
The name change was a very good decision. Praying this is a good sign that the little guy will beat this and that the care givers and owners will look back at this in better days ahead so they can inspire others with animals needing prayer.
Prayers continue!
LATEST NEWS on Sat. 24 Jan. '09: Candoo is driving us nuts. He's HUNGRY to fill out those skinny ribs! The one thing he would not eat yesterday was the ID food Dr. Hannig wants him to have, but today he gobbles it down. He also gobbles down his kibble in fact, he'd eat anything put in front of him. He tried breaking into the container holding the kibble several times, but now it's up on the washer, so he stands there and howls and cries to be fed.
The problem is he's only allowed so much, so that he won't get sick. The vets says to increase by 20% today, as long as he doesn't get sick. The biggest problem is the amount of medication he's on, which needs to be staggered and can't all be given at once; so getting a chart made was a must.
Candoo has torn the stuffing out of two stuffed toys, chewed Meika's (his foster sister) bone for an hour yesterday, and hopped up on the chair to sit in my lap and give me kisses. He tried to give Meika a kiss and practically got his head taken off. All in all, Candoo is proving Candoo CAN DO anything. If he continues to have a good weekend, listen for his update on 99.9FM Kony Country, Monday at around 8am (MDT) with Andrea Wenzel.

If any of you actually want to hear firsthand about Candoo, you can listen to a live stream of KONY Country while Andrea does her radio interview about him. Candoo will actually be in the radio station with Andrea!
