During the summer of 1920, Hitler chose the swastika, an ancient symbol historically used by many cultures, to be the Nazi Party emblem. By 1921 he had secured virtually total control of the Nazi Party. During that time Hitler also plotted to overthrow the German Weimar Republic by force. On November 8, 1923, he led an attempt to take over the local Bavarian government in Munich, in an action that became known as the "Beer Hall Putsch."
The coup was ended after a brief gunfight with Munich police. Himmler, Goering and Hess also participated in the putsch. Hitler was arrested and charged with treason. He successfully used the subsequent trial to gain publicity for himself and his ideas. Following his trial, he was sentenced to five years in Landsberg prison, but served only six months.
During his prison term, Hitler began to dictate his thoughts and philosophy to co-conspirator and cellmate Rudolf Hess, which became the book Mein Kampf (My Struggle). It became the blueprint for Hitler's political plans. In Mein Kampf, he contended that Germans should expand east, liquidate the Jews and turn the Slavs into slave labor. Hitler blamed the Jews for Germany's political and economic problems.
While in jail, Hitler realized he would have to take control of Germany by legal means, not through revolution. He increased the size of the Nazi Party, even though the government had banned it. Hitler's Brown Shirts terrorized political opponents on the streets, which discouraged political competition. During that period, Hitler also created the infamous Schutzstaffel (SS), which was initially intended to be Hitler's bodyguard under the leadership of Himmler.
National politics - 1929-1934
The collapse of the American Wall St. stock exchange in October 1929 lent fuel to a worldwide depression, which had hit Germany especially hard. All loans to Germany from foreign countries dried up, German industrial production slumped, and millions became unemployed. Unemployment in Germany had reached 43 percent by the end of 1932.
Those conditions were fertile ground for Hitler and his Nazi campaign. The Nazis became the second largest party in Germany. Hitler also began to win over the support of both the army and the big industrialists, the latter contributing substantially to Nazi Party finances. Both groups hoped Hitler would return Germany to its former pre-World War I status and glory. He assured top army leaders that the Nazis would reject the punitive Versailles Treaty and rearm Germany.
Thank you for your courteous reply.
Prior to my initial post, I did go to the site (as you subsequently posted).
My query still remains as to the validity of this site (not to slight you in any way btw).
It appears that this site is a travel site, either for, of or about the state of Oregon (other?), sanctioned or not.
Perhaps I’m mistaken or too tired, but I still ? the source.
Whether I agree or not with the associations made, I prefer to have some better degree of source citing.
Again, I thank you for your reply.
The facts and figures from the History.com website were all on Hitler. It would be nice if there were there a similiar site wrt Obama. And there may be in a few months/years.
You’re absolutely right. Even after reading everything, facts, figures and everything else, we’ll still have our own perceptions and personal biases. Myself included. I guess that’s just one of the great things about living in our society. Or as my mom would say, “My mind is made up, don’t confuse me with facts.” Stay safe...
Now that’s a good comparison!
Here are a just few of the things I noted in my own comparison:
Hitler...Swastika, symbol of cultural unity
Obama....Revised version of presidential seal b/4 inaugeration
Hitler...orator on crisis in his country
Obama....orator on crisis in his country
Hitler...youth corps, etc (brownshirts, SS, Gestapo)
Obama....new org. of his campaign volunteers, etc., urging gov’t svc.
Hitler...studied ways to overthrow German gov’t from within
Obama....studied with communists, Muslims, socialists,
Hitler...had key people with him from early on and brought to power with him
Obama....has key people with him from early on and is nominating them for key positions of power
Hitler...got industrialists, MSM to support him
Obama....democrat led congress giving billions to banks, etc., donating millions to his causes, i.e Soros, etal., MSM “ga-ga” over Obama
Hitler...arrogant and “god-like” perception of himself
Obama....arrogant and “god-like” perception of himself
Hitler...orated on “change” for the “victims”
Obama....orates on “change” for the “victims”
Heh. Nice try. Look into it as I do and draw your own conclusions. And if wifey reads your posts and shuts you out (if ya know what I mean) just mark it up to the Zer0 factor, and deal with it. It’s for the common good, after all - HopeyChangey! (Here’s where you do the ‘Spock’ thingie with your hand)
Congratulations to the Steelers. Hope the Cards win the SB and they keep the Steelers from surpassing the Cowboys in SB wins.

One thing to notice was that the loyal democracy loving Germans had a conundrum when they saw Hitler coming to power. Some managed to get into exile and help revive the GDR when Hitler was removed, through massive force that was unavailable to the loyal democratists. The other choice was to fight from within, placing their love of democracy higher than their love of Germany.
A better historical analogy was Caesar crossing the Rubicon, signaling the end of the Roman republic.
Here’s a hypothetical I posted at Intrade, which generated some insightful conversation.
https://bb.intrade.com/intradeForum/posts/list/555/2279.page
Here’s a set of hypotheticals for you. Let’s say you’re a loyal Roman republican with 5 buddies watching Caesar cross the Rubicon with his army, and you know full well what that means for the Roman republic. What is your duty at that point?
Let’s say you’re a loyal German who believes in democracy and you see Hitler making tanks instead of VW’s as he has promised the peepull. What is your duty at that point?
Let’s say you’re a loyal american constitutionalist and you see a marxist usurper cheating his way to the presidency, you file a lawsuit and it gets thrown out of SCOTUS within a week of the inauguration. What is your duty at that point?
I know, I know... no one ever really addresses a good hypothetical. Here’s an example: If the sky were green, would more people have green eyes? Many people say stuff like, “of course the sky ain’t green” or they go into the physics behind why the sky ain’t green or they ask you why you aren’t in with the yellow-eyed crowd or they say green-eyed people are just monsters or all kinds of things, but they never really address the hypothetical. So I shouldn’t hold out any hope that you’d be different.
But at least I’m on record with trying to stop this constitutional travesty and if I wander back to my farm in the highlands rather than continue the fight through further futile Roman Empire politics, that’s my business. The only guy who survived in that movie of ‘300’ was the one whose job it was to tell the history.
Roger, those I can follow. Sorry, I wasn’t looking at things from that perspective. Thanks...
We, the wife and I, draw our own conclusions...and sometimes we even agree! And she doesn’t like Obama either...that’s why she’d be surprised I sounded like I was defending him.
Hell, I’m out here in Iraq...I’m already as shut out as I’m gonna get for a while. And with that, I had a totally different reading the first time with “do the Spock thingie with your hand”.
Sorry, Steelers get #6! They would have had it in 2005 if Neal O’Donnell hadn’t thrown away SB 30 to the Cowboys.
oBAMA IS NOT hITLER.
