In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
audacious \aw-DAY-shus\ adjective
1. daring, bold
2. insolent
3. marked by originality and verve *
* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
The band has been making original and creative music for well over ten years, but their latest album is by far their most audacious to date.
Did you know?
Shakespeare used "audacious" seven times in his plays. That in itself wasn't exactly an act of bold originality. The word, which comes from the Latin root "audac-" ("bold"), had been around for decades. But the Bard was the first to use "audacious" in its "insolent" sense ("Obey, audacious traitor; kneel for grace," Henry VI Part 2), and he may have been the first to use the adverb "audaciously." "Audacious" itself was something of an innovation in the 16th century: it was one of the earliest "-acious" words in English. Subsequently, we've added lots of "-acious" adjectives to our lexicon, including "pugnacious," "loquacious," "voracious," and even, in the 19th century, "bodacious" (which is most likely a combination of "bold" and "audacious").
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Keller school district won't show inauguration in class
At least it’s a nice day for a walk. 11 degrees here this morning.
The Pens winning in Philly is not something that happens often, historically speaking. Good omen, I hope.
“Its audacious to think someone who knows nothing can be an expert on everthing.”
True dat. Everything.
i live an hour due north of dc. the wife and i had toyed with te idea of renting out my in-laws guest house for a couple bill by posting at craigslist.
two nights, champange, breakfast and a drive to the metro.
the joke got old and the good will wore off as the day draws near. we decided against it. i think we actually could have turned a nice buck.
praying for the temps to dip 2 or 3 more degrees with each passing day.
mrs. joe said that was not kosher. i said, too bad! ther is such little vice left in my life (other than reading the wotd thread)!
the article would have been better had it said whether they showed the Bush inauguration during the school day or not! i imagine most teachers who are bellyaching about this, were not similarly enthused 4 or 8 years ago.
do you think the netro police are going to score a windfall in tix revenue or will the moonbats get a free pass for the annoiting?
i’m betting it is going to be a payday for the dc gov!
At the risk of my seeming ungracious

They are giving Hamas
A big kick in the ass
Sagacious, tenacious, pugnacious
i live 2 miles outside the beltway and walking distance from the Vienna metro. we joked about it also, but you know libs would trash your house. i also read that a few people got AUDACIOUS deals like that on their homes, but that most people coming for the inauguration weren’t willing what you’d need to ask for rent, to cover a security deposit and just the sheer inconvenience of it. i am with you and praying for FREEZING RAIN for next tuesday!
hooray for them!!! GO ISRAEL!
it is quite possible that they will just open up the subway gates and let people ride to accomodate as many as they can, but they will want those farecards with the obam’s puss on it!
I thought the exact same thing.
"L'audace, l'audace, toujours l'audace!"--George Danton
24 degrees here, but then the big freeze hasn’t quite arrived yet. i don’t care if it lollygags coming into our area, so long as it stays thru next tuesday!
Bill’s contact with other countries is audacious considering Hillary’s confirmation hearings
the clintoon has had quite a few audacious contacts, some right there in the room off the oval ofc ; )
There fixed it
Ain’t it the truth! I’ve got way too much of that four-letter word staring me in the face this morning. I’m outta here. Try to maintain some sense of decorum and order as you audaciously celebrate the last few days of honor and integrity in the White House.
You audacious WFTD’ers have managed to run this thread up to 37+ posts already? DAMN! Now I have some serious catching up to do! UGH!!
this is my last day in the ofc til after the takeover, so i have my hands full of work as well.
This was just the second wave of Alberta clippers. Tomorrow and Friday single-digit highs and zero or below for the lows. I’ll have to break out the expensive super salt.
