I've had a similar situation with the Police. I thought the right side of the street was blocked off. I stopped waited for somebodies directions and nobody gave any even though there was a police car there. There were illegal immigrant workers blocking the street with one of those cement dropping trucks. So i began to go on the left side of the cones thinking that was the proper way to go...

Next thing you know the cop knocks hard on my window is yelling and cursing at me...I then tell the officer...why weren't you there giving directions like you were supposed to be...he told me to go back and get out of here....i'm getting ready to go through and he reads my lips as i for some reason say stupid freaking liberals which he wasn't supposed to hear....he then tells me okay F you your getting tickets now.....

I call my co worker to see if she has a camera phone as I wanted to take a picture of the area to show the judge that there was no sign and no clear indication of where to go...the officer says get the f off the phone ...are you recording me? I told the officer should I have a reason to? I hung up

As the officer comes back with my 2 tickets for one offense I politely ask him why he has to be so rude and and that i've always supported police when guys like al sharpton give them trouble and that he's there to protect and serve not scare the crap out of people. He tells me to shut the f up...and says okay you can go now

as i'm getting ready to leave he says oh wait hold up buddy i've got more tickets that i forgot to give you...(at this point I realize he's just trying aggravate me)

as he comes back with my ticket I tell him sir God sees everything and there is always karma and you shouldn't treat people bad...his face turns red and angry and he asks are you f'ing threating me? Mind you i'm calm and have not raised my voice at all and i'm scared...he asks me to step out of the vehicle and tells me to move towards the police car...he then begins to cuff me and twists my arm saying (oh so your resisting arrest huh) i wasn't doing anything i knew that he could kill me if he wanted so i didn't move.

Throws me in the car continues to curse at me saying "who the f do you think you are" "you think i'm going to let a young punk like you tell me how to do my job" gets into the other side of the vehicle and slaps me while i'm cuffed. and he comes out of the vehicle and says i'm searching your f'ing vehicle...he finds 2 of my saint prayer cards and he yells out f*** your stupid religious crap

I was incarcerated for 20 hrs and before i was moved to the jail the judge said i was charged for resisting arrest (a lie) and threating to kill an officer( which is lauguable because he outweighs me by like 150 lbs and has a gun next to him...i would have to be clinically insane...

thankfully i have family in the police and i got everything dropped...but it was a terrible ordeal that was completely unnecessary and an abuse of power

Should Police Power be limited???

Yes. By the Bill of Rights. And we should end the failed drug war and all of the corollary policies that went along with it, like warrantless searches due to no "expectation of privacy" and asset forfeiture laws.

Kinda like using family contacts to get out of trouble.

I hear the best way to beat a DUI rap is to plead “broke”.

I’m sensitive to the dangerous and difficult job that our nation’s law enforcement personnel have. That said, I do think there is a culture, stronger is some places than others, that allows police to trample civil rights at will - civil rights of black, white asian and latino. Probably won’t be a popular post on FR. Sorry!

“Fixing” stuff for relatives is against the law. Maybe that’s one of the reasons you have so little respect for the law. My solution? Turn in the family member... if you want to make things better in your community, that’s a good place to start.

Self-inflicted injuries ought to be punished as such, and they were in your case.

You ran into a cop who was just looking for someone like you to take his anger out on, and you gave him every excuse to give you the works. And he did.

You have family who are cops so you ought to know better. Some cops are pricks and they have too much power and you’re not going to be able to change that at the curbside when you are under his control. Best thing to do is to smile politely and say nothing and do exactly as your told immediately and without argument. Save the lectures for when you can have the odds slightly more in your favor.

The guy who arrested you deserves the term “pig”. Cops are part of the government. Just like congress they must be watched and should be bitch smacked when they violate people’s rights. He works for you not the other way around. You are free to criticize him. He should imprisoned for false arrest and told when he can pee by the bully prison guards. See how he likes being bullied.

My mom got a ticket in the mail saying she parked somewhere illegally. She was never there. Mayor’s Daley’s traffic enforcers. Like a mobster’s flunkies. Disgusting disgrace to “serve and protect”. It’s not serve and protect and extort money for the Mayor.

I think we should be clear on a big difference in police behavior.

When police are enforcing the law, they are doing their job and so tend to be reflective of your behavior. If you are polite, they will be polite; if you act the dork, they will treat you accordingly.

However, when police are used to raise money through dirty tricks like speed traps, multiple citations at traffic stops “looking for violations”, and other stuff, their morale tends to suffer, and they get belligerent when their obviously unethical behavior is pointed out to them.

The worst offenses occur in small towns that are reliant on ticketing strangers, but who over time turn to something close to piracy. Things like sabotaging automobiles for the repairs, blackmailing strangers after throwing them in jail, etc. They stop being satisfied with just getting a hundred dollar fine. They want thousands of dollars from their victims.

I heard of one such town in Georgia that had gone so hog wild that they tried to railroad a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent they caught in a speed trap. They ended up beating him, throwing him in jail and confiscating his car. Bad idea. When they finally let him walk, literally, after getting a few thousand dollars, he hoofed it to the next town over and made a few phone calls.

The State Police and the GBI descended on that town like hundred tons of bricks and arrested nearly everyone in town. No sense of humor about these things.

But that is the exception. In most cases the city fathers want to use tricks like traffic cameras, these days, because a demoralized police force is asking for trouble. Even demanding ticket quotas is going to tick off a lot of cops, who resent being used, and used in a way that makes ordinary people distrust them.

I believe every word of it and know it happens and is getting worst everyday.

When you get to court they are going to believe the cop every time. Lawyers from outside our county wont even take cases here because they say the cops and DA’s lie.

I live in a small town and it is all about jobs, the people are about to erupt.

"...are you recording me?"

Always, if you can, always record encounters with the police. They're recording you at every chance they get. You have the right under the first amendment to record them, period.

Government has gotten way out of hand, monstrously so. The police are government’s enforcers and their attitudes have generally changed over the years to better fit the new role/rule of government. Way different situation from when I was a kid.
