After spending the season as college footballs marquee stars, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow and Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford now hold the biggest off-season question in their hands.
One N.F.L. scout said that Sam Bradford is a "no-brainer" overall No. 1 pick in the draft.

I think Tebow will stay at UF too, but more than one pro player has gone back to get his degree after a lucrative career. Getting a degree at 21/22 v. 35 or 60 (Joe Namath) is not really a big deal. Think about the Queen rocker who spent 30 years in showbiz, then went back to get his Ph.D. in astrophysics.
Staying in school another year or two will help them mature, but both players come from solid families and seem to have pretty good heads on their shoulders. And, let’s face it, Tebow/Bradshaw will make many many times the income of their PBK classmates.
They need someone willing to trade. Detroit will no doubt want to make this a Lawrence Welk trade. I'm not sure that there are any teams out there willing to do this.
For most of the last half of the season I completely agreed with you. I liked that the Chiefs were putting up points against just about any team they played. And then came the Cincinnati game. I know that they had nothing to play for but pride, but if ever there was an example of a team that just went through the motions then that was the Kansas City Chiefs on December 28th. And I place that directly on the coaches. Up until then I thought that whoever the new GM was, he should give Herm at least to the end of his contract. But after that pathetic performance, I think Herm needs to go, along with Gunther Cunningham. The Chiefs do need a completely new broom to sweep things out.
I'd hate to see him go to Detroit, of course, but hey, being a bazillionaire in Detroit is probably pretty nice work if a guy can get it.
Whatever's best for Sam, I say.
Sam is a fine young Christian gentleman, a model citizen on campus, a member of the FCA and a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, which at least around here is considered a cool thing.
He's majoring in finance, carrying a 3.95 (out of 4.00) grade average.
One would expect that his academic interests will come into consideration into whether to return to school or not.
It's not like the kid is an average jock as many would assume from the national media coverage.
Gunther Cunningham, like Carl Peterson, has outlived his usefulness with the Chiefs. He should leave.
I was ready to exit Herm Edwards early also. But I believe I see his directions in the team. Some key injurys early in the season forced some adjustments that put inexperienced players in starting positions. The team showed some spirit overall and made good gains overall, with the exception of the final game.
But the numbers of Larry Johnson were pathetic. Some of that was attributable to the lack of an experienced offensive line. But the one game I attended early vs Oakland, LJ was dogging it. His lack of effort was obvious. He was repeatedly booed by the crowd for his obvious lack of effort. He is dead weight on the payroll after getting the huge contract, his numbers were 3rd string RB.
Raiders just don’t beat the Chiefs on their home field. That is totally unacceptable and a huge embarrassment. Seated next to some Raiders fans, we had nothing for their abuse. And Raiders fans are some of the rudest in the league. But the Chiefs were essentially crushed. So were the hopes of a decent season.
Thigpen was forced into the starting position because of injury to Croyle and Huard. Neither QB had an outstanding performance prior to entering Thigpen. It was after that game that I had pretty much given up on the season, and Herm Edwards. Frankly the 2008 season for KC was one of the most agonizing seasons I have sat through. They don’t need just prayer (LOL). They need divine intervention. Coming off the worst season in team history Herm Edwards has one more year in his contract and that is by a thread.
Wonderful family, heartwarming mission. Thank you!
And, if this season’s post game interviews are any indication, we will have absolutely no idea what the hell either of them said after they finished answering the question.
Without even researching I can name 1 NBA player:
Shaquille O’Neal
Most don’t go back, you’re right. That said, the fact remains one goes to college primarily for the purpose of preparing for a career. And if we are going to use college athletics as the development league for the NBA and NFL we have to accept that going pro at the most opportune time is the smart move.
And before we glamorize the years before players left early to turn pro, let’s remember that, at that same time, the colleges were regularly bending rules to keep players academically eligible just as they do now, so it’s not like a lot of those kids were really getting an education even if they did end up with a degree.
Tebow’s not an NFL quarterback. His playing style doesn’t suit the pros at all.
On the other hand I had the great good fortune to be there a week later, seated in the middle of a bunch of Denver fans. For what it's worth we enjoyed watching them get quieter and quieter as the game went on.
Thigpen was forced into the starting position because of injury to Croyle and Huard.
Unlike Croyle, Thigpen has remained healthy for more than 2 quarters are a time. And amazingly enough, under Thigpen the Chiefs seem to have discovered that passing down field is not illegal. I count Thigpen as one of the few bright spots in the season and I would love to see how he does with a better offensive line and with a defense that holds the opponents to under 80 points a game. The Chiefs under Thigpen were averaging what, 21 or 22 points a game? There is no excuse for not winning 4 or 5 of those games except for an absolutely pathetic defense and defensive coordinator. I'll give Herm another year if we must. But Gunther has got to go.
I can also spell “thought”, s.a.
...then again he probably would have picked(#1)yet another WR from Toilet Bowl State anyway...to match his decor.
I still would like to see a Florida/USC match-up...on neutral ground of course(not CA or FL that is). Would be a great game.
Not only is Tebow coming back, but the word is Harvin might be back as well.
Can you say 2009 Unbeaten National Champs?
