Patrick Swayze Hospitalized for Pneumonia

Patrick Swayze checked himself into the hospital this morning suffering from a bout of pneumonia, which is said to be a complication of chemotherapy treatments for his pancreatic cancer.

Swayze appeared on television this week, giving an exclusive interview with Barbara Walters about his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Swayze was scheduled to join his fellow co-star and producers in presenting A&E's new drama The Beast to critics, which he stars in. After realizing he would be too ill to make it, according to A&E reps, Patrick asked that the show go on and that they pass along a message from him about how "unbelievably proud" he is of the work they've done so far on the show.

"You can bet that I'm going through Hell," Swayze recently told Walters. "And I've only seen the beginning of it. There's a lot of fear here. There's a lot of stuff going on. Yeah, I'm scared. Yeah, I'm angry. Yeah, I'm asking, 'Why me?'"

actually he called me a judgmental shrew. which i am not. I was defending a fellow freeper for having an opinion which was not disgusting, possibly judgmental but NOT digusting.

I will stick up for anyones right to have a reasonable opinion and NOT be attacked for it to my dying breath

You and your ilk attack fellow freepers for their opinions and then you expect to be treated like the second coming!

With your attitude expect to be attacked.

I would attack you for an anti Jewish, pro homo or supporting pedophilia post too as would many others.

Gloating over a man's death because he smoked or drank or didn't cry enough for the "chilren" deserves an attack.

Oh, stop it. You are defending someone who can’t find room in his/her heart to feel compassion for Mr. Swayze’s plight.

but i’m not a baby boomer hippie...never was.

Neither was I. What has that to do with a lack of compassion?

It doesn’t matter that he smoked or drank alcohol. Neither contributed to his illness.

Though you are medically incorrect I wish Mr. Swayze a quick recovery so that he can continue his treatment. I've watched a loved one slowly die of this terrible disease and pray that I never see it again.

And it is crazy to say that I am gloating over anyones death. I don’t know if you can actually read but I never did any thing of the sort!

Do we have the right to think his opinion is repugnant?

So much for your defense of opinions.

Though you are medically incorrect

Then why do children die from this and every other kind of cancer?

Please provide Mr. Swayze's personal medical records proving your guess to be a fact.

Generally, those who are compassionate are more beloved.

We are only expressing OUR opinions that he/she is a cold hearted person.

Is that OK with you?

“doesn’t matter that he smoked or drank alcohol. Neither contributed to his illness. We’re all gonna die, no matter how healthy we live our lives.”

Actually, swayze himself said in the interview that his smoking had contributed to this illness.(according to his doctor)

Maybe he’s second guessing some of the things he did in his life? I hear it happens when one learns he/she is dying.

And seriously, the man is dying, no point in him quitting smoking or eating healthy or not having a drink or beer or whatever.

I actually think there absolutely no reason to quit if your dying. I have no problem with swayze or what he says or does.

What does being alive in the 60's have to do with anything?

A word of advice, you're getting too angry and need to take a deep breath. Other posters are reacting to that too. We don't need a flamer. Defend your beliefs and let others see to themselves.

I’ve watched a loved one die of pancreatic cancer and she neither smoked nor drank alcohol.

My husband, for instance, lives an incredibly healthy lifestyle. He runs about 5 miles per day, watches his diet, has never smoked or done any drugs, drinks beer occasionally. He has high blood pressure and has been on bp meds and heart meds since he was 25 yrs old. Our doctor told him he’ll be on these meds the rest of his life, despite his lifestyle, either because it’s hereditary or just the way it is.

I join you in wishing Patrick Swayze a recovery or a peaceful death.

Are those children that Swayze should visit and learn from dying because they are little smoking alcoholic bums? If so they are not very good role models are they?

Or maybe can some people just get sick and die?

Risk factors = Potential causes

It goes both ways, you can’t unequivocally say it was or it was not a cause.

Regardless, I hope he continues his fight.

I think he may have been referring to the smoking part. Patrick told Barbara Walters it was “probable” smoking led to his cancer... when Barbara talked to an onclogist about him still smoking “because at this point it probably doesn’t matter” the doctor said it does affect his treatment success ratio. I am a non-smoker, but I know from people around me who have and do smoke that there is probably no more addictive drug on planet earth than nicotine.
