Patrick Swayze checked himself into the hospital this morning suffering from a bout of pneumonia, which is said to be a complication of chemotherapy treatments for his pancreatic cancer.
Swayze appeared on television this week, giving an exclusive interview with Barbara Walters about his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Swayze was scheduled to join his fellow co-star and producers in presenting A&E's new drama The Beast to critics, which he stars in. After realizing he would be too ill to make it, according to A&E reps, Patrick asked that the show go on and that they pass along a message from him about how "unbelievably proud" he is of the work they've done so far on the show.
"You can bet that I'm going through Hell," Swayze recently told Walters. "And I've only seen the beginning of it. There's a lot of fear here. There's a lot of stuff going on. Yeah, I'm scared. Yeah, I'm angry. Yeah, I'm asking, 'Why me?'"
Where in the Hell did ever say he was an alcoholic?
Get a damn life!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not like Swayze, not your death.
There is a difference between strong woman and dense heartless shrew.
I guess years and years makes me a newbie huh?
Well, you lived up to your screen name, didn’t you.
Yes, you are a n00bie and not much of a FReeper.
DU full of people like you.
Do us all a favor and join them.
No one deserves what cancer does to their bodies... and in some cases it has nothing to do with lifestyle, but genetics. My MIL, her sisters, her mother and her mothers-mother all died of stomach cancer.
Noob, you haven't been here "years and years". You signed up 2-18-2005. Eaker has been here longer than me. I've been here 5 years longer than you. And I'd bet both Eaker and I are older than you.
I actually have followed his career and he has been one for years.
A friend told me a couple of months ago that right here in out small town of 56,000 there is almost an epidemic of pancreatic cancer; so many cases doctors are starting to look more closely for it when they are treating other symptoms.
This thread is getting freaky imo.
Many of us have dealt with illness and death of a loved one. We all deal with it and grieve differently. However, personally, I’ve never been diagnosed with a terminal illness so I have no idea how I would handle it.
BTW, your comment about Eaker being offended by a strong woman is ludicrous and uncalled for, imo.
I never attacked a dying man for what he was feeling. I attacked the people on this site who attacked a fellow freeper for their opinion. Last I knew that wasn’t a crime.
know a dozen people who have died of this disease in the last five years. None of them smoked; only a couple of them drank, and they were certainly not alcoholics.
People with this attitude amaze me. Do you think that because you live your life a certain way that this won’t happen to you? If so, you may be in for a very big surprise one day.
apparently you didn’t watch the interview. I did. swayze himself admitted that the smoking caused his disease. he also has no intention of quitting. which of course is his decision to make.
I am not nor have i every said that he didn’t have the right to do and say whatever he wanted.
I AM defending another freeper who had an opinion and was ATTACKED as if by liberal loons for that opinion.
I think he “had” a drinking problem, but he put that behind him for the sake of his marriage (like so many who finally quit). Tobacco has not been so easy and he was blunt the other night and stated smoking was not a good thing and he will challenge anyone who thinks about lighting up not to do it.
maybe you need a lesson on compassion.
You and your ilk attack fellow freepers for their opinions and then you expect to be treated like the second coming!
You definitly need to learn to accept that not everyone is going to agree with you and not everyone will appreciate being attacked for their opinions. we are the conservatives, those who attack others for their words are liberal loons
It doesn’t matter that he smoked or drank alcohol. Neither contributed to his illness. We’re all gonna die, no matter how healthy we live our lives.
Maybe he’s second guessing some of the things he did in his life? I hear it happens when one learns he/she is dying.
And seriously, the man is dying, no point in him quitting smoking or eating healthy or not having a drink or beer or whatever.

Patrick Swayze checks into hospital with pneumonia
LOS ANGELES Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital for observation after contracting pneumonia, A&E President Abbe Raven announced Friday at a meeting of the Television Critics Association. Swayze was scheduled to appear to discuss his upcoming drama "The Beast."
Robert DeBitetto, A&E's programming senior vice president, explained his absence.
"Patrick has asked that I tell you that this morning he checked himself into the hospital for observation," said DeBitetto. "Chemotherapy can take its toll on the immune system, and illnesses are a part of that. Patrick wishes me to tell you that he's very sorry he cannot attend, but plans to get back to promoting `The Beast' soon."
Swayze's spokeswoman, Annett Wolf, confirmed that Swayze was in the hospital but would not provide additional details.
"In light of the news today, it's a bump in the road," said Vincent Angell, one of the show's co-executive producers. "We wish him all the best."
In the series, which premieres Jan. 15, Swayze plays an FBI veteran who trains a rookie partner played by Travis Fimmel. Producers said they found out Swayze had cancer four hours after learning A&E had picked up the series. They also said filming was completed on all episodes of the first season and hope Swayze could continue in the role for a second season.
"He's an inspiration," said Fimmel. "He makes the little things seem so not important."
Earlier this week, Swayze told ABC's Barbara Walters that his yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer put him "through hell" while he pushed ahead on his new TV series.
The 56-year-old actor also owned up to his fear: "Yeah, I'm scared. Yeah, I'm angry. Yeah, I'm (asking), 'Why me?'"
But i’v been a conservative my whole life. And Your right,I probably am younger but i’m not a baby boomer hippie...never was.
An opinion of compassion or one of non-compassion. I have no problem with attacking someone with no compassion for the suffring.
You yell about posters being attacked and then start calling people names?
