Patrick Swayze Hospitalized for Pneumonia

Patrick Swayze checked himself into the hospital this morning suffering from a bout of pneumonia, which is said to be a complication of chemotherapy treatments for his pancreatic cancer.

Swayze appeared on television this week, giving an exclusive interview with Barbara Walters about his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Swayze was scheduled to join his fellow co-star and producers in presenting A&E's new drama The Beast to critics, which he stars in. After realizing he would be too ill to make it, according to A&E reps, Patrick asked that the show go on and that they pass along a message from him about how "unbelievably proud" he is of the work they've done so far on the show.

"You can bet that I'm going through Hell," Swayze recently told Walters. "And I've only seen the beginning of it. There's a lot of fear here. There's a lot of stuff going on. Yeah, I'm scared. Yeah, I'm angry. Yeah, I'm asking, 'Why me?'"

I don’t think it was a compassionless statment. And personally I don’t think that swayze was feeling sorry for himself either but if someone on this website thought that he was and suggested a way that he could put his situation into perspective, i do not see how that is disgusting.

One thing that i think conservatives are all about is rugged individuality. The ability to man up and not play the blame game when life sucks. The ability to realize that there are others worse off and not be all about “me me me”

If you don’t care why are you even here.

I was hoping to find the latest dirt on Kate Hudson, you've heard it, I'm sure, you know, no boyfriend, seen liplocking another chick. You'll post it with all the details, won't you. Thank you in advance.

It shocked a good number of us so it is shocking. It was disgusting to a good number of us, so it was disgusting.

Perhaps not you,,but then you are not us and can’t tell us what to feel.

Now, see, right there is a liberal statement. Just because a good number thinks one way doesn’t mean EVERYONE
has to think that way or they are wrong! Conservatives try to think for themselves and don’t appreciate their perspectives being trivialized because it doesn’t match up with the mainstream.

Apparently you haven’t been one long enough yet.

I actually did watch the interview. I didn’t, personally, think that he was whining or filled with self pity. I only wanted to stick up for the poster who had an opinion...and really a good one...and got ripped up for it.

That is not the way that we do things as conservatives. We respect the idea that adults have to take responsibility for their behavior and its consequences.

I love patrick swayze, always have. But he was a heavy smoker and an alcoholic. I wish it hadn’t caught up with him but it did.

Those children in St. Judes didn’t do anything to contribute to their fatal illness’.

Tell me what right you or anyone else has to judge a dying man's state of mind? As I said before, he was asked in an interview how he felt. He answered.

suggested a way that he could put his situation into perspective

He's dying. What right has anyone to ask that he "put in perspective"?!

and see the way that they handle it without self pity then that would be a good thing for mr. swayze(whom i love by the way)

So it will cure him?

No, you just want to see him hurt more.

I bet you would be curled up in a ball pissing and moaning if it was you.

You are the one that doesn't belong here. You are probably too much of a judgmental shrew even for DU.

I’ll say it one last time.

I did not judge patrick swayze nor do i think that he shouldn’t be allowed to feel anyway he wants.

I am sticking up for a poster that was ripped apart for having an opinon. and unless i am mistaken this is a FORUM and not everyone is going to have the same take on swayze or his attitude.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I HATE HATE HATE it when some of the superior a-holes on this site think that if everyone doesn’t see things their way then its o.k. to attack them!
Its NOT! That is what is digusting here.

You take the cake. You have no way of knowing why he has cancer. You keep spouting about what conservatives believe and then like any good liberal blame the dying victim for having a common disease, cancer.

never occurred to me to ask God why.

Didn't Jesus on the cross ask "why" he had been forsaken?

So you are a better man than Jesus?

EXCUES ME! I have dealt with death! And I did NOT piss and moan....I grieved, then i sucked it up and put my life into perspective.

I’m sorry if a strong woman offends you.

What is disgusting is attacking a dying man for what he is feeling.

You are on the wrong website.

The 3 year survival rate of pancreatic cancer is less than 5%, and that is if it gets caught early...which it rarely is. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer shortly after Labor Day and died in mid-November. My dad was fortunate that he had excellent pain management. He felt blessed that he had enough time to “get his affairs in order”. I hope Patrick Swayze defies the odds, but it looks like he’s fading fast. May God be with him.

.

I know -

My cousin had to retire early -

He had been very sucessful in NYC corporations and traveled abroad on business some years before with Cary Grant, Hugh O’Brien - who were on the BOD at one corporation
The well-deserved success and the resultant money could not help - He also was not the type of person who could easily adapt to slowing down and not being active

He was modest and was a great (corny!) practical joker with a terrific personality and loved to work with his stereos and electronics when very young in his early teens - Worked his way through college with savings from his summer jobs -

He bought a nice medium sized place in NJ and rewired it himself expertly - The home and his lifestyle would never tell anyone who saw it the income level and investments he and his wife had

If there was ever an instance of “the good die young” - this was it

I wish it hadn’t caught up with him but it did.

I know a dozen people who have died of this disease in the last five years. None of them smoked; only a couple of them drank, and they were certainly not alcoholics.

People with this attitude amaze me. Do you think that because you live your life a certain way that this won't happen to you? If so, you may be in for a very big surprise one day.

I will pray for a really good man like Patrick.
I hate reading of his misery and hope he can recover.
He will forever be General Orey Main in “North and South”
