Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Pittsburgh, and Rep. Brian Bilbray, R-San Diego, don’t just differ on what direction the country should go. No, their partisanship runs much deeper than that. Their juggernaut is over who wins the critically important Steelers-Chargers playoff game that will be held in Pittsburgh this Sunday.

At stake is a "friendly" wager that will mean lunch for the legislative staffs of whatever team comes up on top. If the Chargers win, Doyle will buy Primanti Brothers sandwiches and Iron City Beer for the meal. If the Steelers win, Bilbray will buy Rubio’s Mexican Food and Stone Brewery Beer.

“The Chargers won’t know what hit them Sunday” said Doyle via e-mail, “I almost feel bad about scoring a free lunch off Brian. Too bad they don't have a Primanti Brothers in San Diego."

Bilbray shot back saying, really? “Come Sunday afternoon, the Chargers are going to

Exactly what I was thinking. A Stone Russian Imperial Stout and a Primanti Bros sandwich would be awesome.

Sure the Bengals lose often, but they were also in the playoffs recently.

Haven’t had that one. It’s tough here on the east coast to get them all. Had the arrogant bastard, the two IPA’s and LOVE the pale ale. I’ll have to try it.

Iron City? Just because he disagrees politically is no reason to poison him. OTH - Primanti’s is the apotheosis of the sandwich.

Yeah, while SD has to overcome those powerhouse Chiefs and Raiders.

Every division has its weak sisters and in almost all divisions it changes from year to year. Except the AFC north where you have the perennial weak sister Bengals. Much of the Steeler success is due to an inflated W-L record, thanks in large measure to the 2 win spot they get each year. Let me assure you Mike Brown is not held in high regard by team owners in other, much tougher, AFC conferences.

I want a side bet --- that which ever one of the congress critters has to pay up, 10-1 it ends up on a government expense report.

The only reason Pittsburgh has home field advantage they get to roll over the hapless Benglas twice each season.

By that reckoning, San Diego should be the #1 seed in the AFC every year playing in a division that has three other teams that make the Bungles look good.

The Steelers are #2 seed only because they somehow beat the Ravens twice this year.
