Milky Way This artist's conception of the Milky Way shows the four-arm spiral structure confirmed by recent VLBA distance measurements (shown by green and blue dots). The data show that the Milky Way is spinning faster than previously believed. Our galaxy therefore is more massive than astronomers thought, matching Andromeda's heft. Red dots mark the galactic center and the location of our solar system. Credit: Robert Hurt, IPAC; Mark Reid, CfA, NRAO/AUI/NSF Low Resolution Image (jpg)
Doomed?
You forgot the ‘OH GEEZE, WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!’ disclaimer
PING
This is only a problem for those who still want to insist that such structures (spiral galaxies in this case) are held together by gravity, the weakest of the basic forces.
In other words, these guys would rather claim to have been massively off in estimating mass for our own galaxy than to admit the simple reality that gravity does not hold the thing together....
I knew it!!!!
I just knew it!!!
I have been feeling dizzy lately and now I know why!!!
Gosh darn it!! Stop the darn spinning! I am about to throw up!
Milky Way â the galaxy â not snack-sized anymore

“Only recently has truth begun to triumph. Continuing research in many fields is finally sorting fact from fiction”
