Thanks for posting that. I loved Groucho. We had neighbors in the 50s who were two sets of identical twins who were married, Herman and Harmon were married to Lela and Lola, and they lived across the alley from us. I could never tell them apart. In the mid-50s they were on You Bet Your Life and Groucho had a lot of fun trying to keep who’s-who straight. Very funny episode.

Cool story.

I figured that everyone might enjoy some nostalgia of the ‘old days.’

What impressed me was the composed demeanor of the 21 year old woman who married at 15 and would have done rings around most modern Ivy League graduates in the geography category.

Wonderful. Thanks for reminding us of that show. We’re going to need a lot of laughs this year I think.

“What’s your name?”

“Ramiro G. Gonzalez.”

“Ramiro G. Gonzalez, eh? What does the G stand for?”

“Gonzalez.”

“Ramiro Gonzalez Gonzalez? What does your wife call you, Ramiro or Gonzalez?

“She call me Pedro.”

Later..

“Say, you’re a very funny guy. We should form an act. What do you think we should call our act?”

“Gonzalez Gonzalez and Marx.”

“Hopw do you like that? Two guys in the act and I get third biliing.”

Groucho was a master of the double entendre!

Thanks for posting that. That was funny. I watched some more Groucho stuff then got sidetracked on the “What’s my Line” clips. Ended up staying way too late Saturday night/Sunday morning watching all of those. Those old shows were the best. Wish we had people around like them again—Jack Benny, Groucho, George Burns.

June was just so classy and mature for only being 21.

You think you got sidetracked? I’ve been watching those clips all week. I was born in 1988 but those old shows are my favorite.

Well I’m older than you (born in 67) but too young to remember those shows too. From the comments posted on YouTube, seems like many people appreciate that time period. I watched a few more of the Bet Your Life shows last night/early this morning. That Groucho was fast with the comebacks. Did you see the clip of an older Groucho complaining about the raunchiness of TV and the culture in general? That was in the 70’s. Imagine what he would think of today.

Ohh yes, I saw that clip. He was on the Dick Cavett show.

I think he said that he expected movies and to start becoming ‘clean’ again. He’s probably turning in his grave.

I also really like the You Bet Your Life clips. I was watching the one with Lucille Ball earlier and I couldn’t stop laughing.

I watched the Groucho/Benny clip where Jack Benny had on a wig and said his name was Ronald Forsythe. He could have won $3000 if he would have revealed Jack Benny’s true age. Benny/Ronald declined—ha, ha.
