Sam's Club has fifty pound sacks of rice for about $25 and fifty pound sacks of Pinto beans for about $12.50. I've been stocking up on both.
As long as you don't open the bags they are protected from bugs.
You can live on rice and beans indefinitely.

Large quantities of open items should have ‘bay leaves’ placed inside, and that will prevent bugs as you use out of them.

I’ve been doing this for years. Also been able to produce enough gas to go off the grid.

"You can live on rice and beans indefinitely." Yes, you could live on just rice and beans if necessary. But I would recommend stocking up on some good vitamins, as well. I have found that one packet of EmergenC every other day is an excellent supplement. It's in a powder form, is compact and stores well if kept dry. In times of emergency or famine, a once a week dosage would be very beneficial.
