I grew up in the 1950s. I don’t EVER remember my Mom doing hosework dressed to the nines like the TV sit com moms or the moms shown in ads.

Every day growing up, my mom would curl her hair and put on lipstick just before my dad got home. Then when he got home, they would have a cocktail together in the living room and chat.

I’ve never done that for my husband. He’s lucky if there is a cold beer in the refrigerator.

I grew up in the 60’s and although my Mom didn’t clean house in heels wearing pearls, she was always dressed up and looked beautiful by the time my Dad walked in the door... it was important to her to look good for him.

I grew up in the fifties(well, actually I was alive then, I probably didn't grow up til the eighties) and my mom never did house work. She paid someone to come in once a week and do some, the rest just never got done. Took me a long time as an adult to figure out how to unlearn all those bad habits.
The difficult part about working and having kids was the emotional part, giving them all the time they needed and deserved. That's when I started staying home, and figuring out how to do housework.
ps When my mom died in her 80’s her kitchen sink was full of dirty dishes, and her house full of more than half a dozen dumpsters of junk and trash.
