When the bombs were dropped on Japan, he was a right scanner on a B29 preparing to head for the South Pacific.I hope you didn't marry until after the war. I have heard of child brides but in your case it would have been literal.
By the way, what is a scanner? My uncle was navigator on a B-17 but I am not familiar with that job classification.

No, we were married in ‘57. Been 51 great years.
He says right scanners and left scanners were gunners. I’m assuming that when not involved in fighting they were expected to scan the skies for other aircraft .... both friend and foe.
