I thought I had posted an article about Pastor Niemoeller early in the year, but I couldnt find anything in the archives so perhaps I am mistaken. The WWI U-boat commanders de luxe accommodations during his seven years in the care of the German security apparatus were in Sachsenhausen at first and later at Dachau. He survived the war and lived until 1984, when he died at age 92. Quite a tough character.
Today he is best known for a poem that is generally attributed to him.
"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didnt speak up because I wasnt a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didnt speak up because I wasnt a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didnt speak up because I wasnt a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."
I look forward to these posts every day. I can only wish they had a broader audience.
Thanks.
Not to mention a Kennedy update.
Right after that ski trip they switched to touch football.
Their propensity for injury on the ski slope must have been hereditary.

“70 years ago tomorrow (6/27/37) a Dr. Niemoeller, disillusioned with the Nazi regime, preached his last sermon. Three days later he was arrested and confined to Moabit prison. He wound up in Dachau, where he was liberated by Allied troops in 1945.”
