Word For The Day, Tuesday, December 30, 2008
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
fainéant [fey-nee-uhnt; fe-ney-ahn]
-adj
Given to doing nothing; idle.
-n
An irresponsible idler; a sluggard.
[French, alteration (influenced by fait néant, does nothing) of Old French faignant, idler, from present participle of faindre, feindre, to feign; see feign.]
fainéant would have something to do with a new years resolution for retired folk, but not with flaneur, a more active crowd paticipation.
Still working on attaining pro level on Wii tennis.
All week.
The faineance of the French has no limit - it led to their defeat in WWII and is leading to the Islamization of France today.
