I was born and raised in Chicago and have resided on the northside ..most of the time in the Illinois 5th Congresional district.
Rod Blagojevich and Rahm Emmanuel have BOTH been my congressmen.
Now because Rahm has announced that he is leaving and a special election will take place, I am considering throwing my name in for the special election. After all I reside here! Many of the Life-long Politicians who want the seat are just that, Life long politicians looking for another job.
So I am asking FReepers far and wide to put on their think caps and help me out. Give me some sound advice about what I should be considering.
For those of you on Freerepublic who do not know me, you can easily google my name and read up on what I have been involved in.
In 2000 I became an Election Volunteer coordinator for the National Rifle Association to help get out the vote. I did that along with promoting gun rights through the present day.
In the summer I organized a class for women who never shot a gun before. It was a hugh success and a lot of fun. I participated in IGOLD which was for Illinois Gun Owners who wanted to go down to Springfield and Lobby our General assembly. So all this to say I am a very active person politically. Many of you are aware of Chicago's murder rate and war on Gun Owners.
I was one of the "Original Minutemen". I served 3 tours of duty on the Arizona/Mexico border. I continue to lobby in Illinois for Enforcement of Immigration laws on the books. Curbing illegal immigration has been my passion.
The Chicago Media is Pro-Amnesty so you can imagine their SPIN on the subject and their Promotion of illegal aliens at every turn.
I have testified in Washington DC about illegal immigration destroying Illinois. The Illinois Taxpayers spend 3.5 BILLION dollars a year on services for Illegal aliens and we have the first SANCTUARY COUNTY in the NATION! COOK COUNTY>
Rahm Emmanuel was a great friend and promoter of illegal immigration.
I can only do what I can do, but I beleive you act and see what happens. MAYBE Folks in the Illinois 5th Congressional district have had enoungh of all this corruption. I am ready to bank on that.
I would need someone who could throw up a website and possibly help me do a you-tube..technology is important.
OK FREEPERS far and wide, Help me out and give me your best thoughts. Thanks In Advance!!
P.S. My "other" passion is Senior Citizen advocacy.
They fought for this country and built this country and past it off to us, hoping we will be good stewards.
I know I do not have all the answers, but then neither does Caroline! We both are about the same age.
I do not have a website yet where they can donate. This is not even 24 hours old so I am trying to catch up!
“My “other” passion is Senior Citizen advocacy.”
Consider connecting it (somehow)...remember this?...if it is still relevant:
‘In testimony provided to the Global Commission on International Migration, the liberal U.S.-based Migration Policy Institute [22] praised President Bush for making this agreement to “help workers get credit towards qualification in each countrys public pension systems for years worked in the other country.” However, the testimony noted that the agreement “may face resistance in the US Congress due do the political sensitivity of any measure that touches on the issue of unauthorized immigration from Mexico.”
This is an understatement. The agreement was withheld from public scrutiny for years. Finally, the TREA Senior Citizens League, a senior citizens advocacy group, released a copy of the agreement with Mexico after finally getting it through the Freedom of Information Act. It said the document, which “could allow millions of illegal Mexican workers to draw billions of dollars from the U.S. Social Security Trust Fund,” was approved in June 2004 but is awaiting President Bush’s signature. It says that once President Bush approves the agreement, which would be done without Congressional vote, either House of Congress would have 60 days to disapprove the agreement by voting to reject it.”

I am SOOO excited for you....you go girl!!
Would you believe I now have a Financial director and on New Years day I am going to do video and commercials ( You Tube) for my website which should be up by Monday. Praise the Lord.
The OTHER MIRACLE that happened today is I called the Illinois State Rifle Association and talked with Richard Pierce the Executive Director. He gave me his e-mail and told me to send him stuff and he would get it to the appropriate people, THAT my friend is a MIRACLE!!
I am STILL trying to figure that out!
I’d have to agree with everyone else. Do it!
You’re the kind of change I can believe in. As opposed to that bunch pilfering my pockets for change.
Go for it!
Are there any Republican party committees in Chicago? Can you count on any organizing support? It might just be a year when you’d have a shot at it.
Good luck, whatever your decision.
The BAD part is I cannot depend on the RepubliCRAT party to help http://www.championnews.net/article.php?sid=1468
It will be totally grassroots-conservative issue-driven folks.
Today I will talk to some Strong Pro-Life groups and ask for help!
Is that Mell, as in the Dick Mell who is Rod Blagoevich's father-in-law? That one should be easy to link to Rod.
I lived in that district, if you aren’t connected don’t even bother.
I’m obviously several days late with this but here’s my $0.02 worth.
You seem to have a solid conservative background - good for you!! If you decide (or have decided) to run, start by running on your conservative credentials.
Also, run AGAINST the Chicago political machine that has given Chicago (and Illinois) the likes of Blogoyevich, Emmanuel, Daly, Jackson, and Obama (by the by, since Obama claims Hawaii as his home state, what is his connection to Illinois!!??).
Run AGAINST the culture of corruption that has overtaken American politics and run on the basis of the vision of America that the Founding Fathers had. And, (thid should not be a news flash on THIS site) run on Reagan’s solid conservative principles.
The time may be right in Illinois for a non-Chicago machine conservative to win a seat. I hear that the mood in Chicago is unsympathetic to Blogoyevich and it may be enough to get a conservative elected.
Go for it!! We’ll be pullin’ for you!!
CL,
I agree totally with Dusty. The single dominant issue should be anti-corruption, anti-corrupt politics. Draw the picture to include both what is illegal, and what is legal but unethical. This would include pushing transparency and sunshine laws at all levels.
With single issue groups such as pro-life, pro-gun, low-tax, immigration, especially the home-schoolers and private schoolers, etc, tell them what they want to hear when it is what you yourself believe. But do so in a way that motivates them to work for you and not just to vote for you. And do it in a way that doesn’t alienate others.
In a lesson learned from the Keyes campaign a co-worker said “I agree with Keyes on abortion. But my wife and daughter arent going to get abortions so it doesn’t touch me. But lefties are trying to take away my gun. So I want Keyes to give MY ISSUE some attention.”
Anti-corruption can bring together in cooperation all those single issue types without alienating any of them for feeling their issue was slighted.
Winning the 5th is remotely possible, but unlikely. Thus, the focus should be on how it can help other candidates for school board or whatever, and how it can build an organization for 2010 for St Rep, etc as well as the 2010 congressional race. Anyway the closest you will come to winning in the special election is to build that organization. (Unless you have money to buy it that I’m not aware of)
Go for it - do us proud! More freepers need to step back from the keyboard and run... for office.
