OH Yeah!
Flying commercial is tantamount to having a root canal without anesthetic .... the AMTRAK folks were super!!!! Food was great (dad had steak every night) ... OK, so we were thirteen hours late leaving Seattle and seven hours late leaving Chicago on the return - we had our own roomette so food was included in the price .... it was seventeen hundred dollars R/T for the three of us ....

If you’ve the time - go AMTRAK -

Welcome SkyDancer! I'm a huge AMTRAK fan. That steak they serve is delicioso! I always get the roomette, too. Obviously, AMTRAK is much more expensive than flying, and exceedingly so if you get the roomette, although I justify the cost as if it is sort of a hotel stay with meals included.

You have privacy, a bed and even (community) showers. I absolutely love dining in the dining car because you can watch the great American countryside roll by and often are seated with others and the conversations can be excellent. No matter where you are, diner, lounge car or roomette, the viewing is spectacular.

We’ve been talking about an Amtrak to Canada then take the Canadian train across Canada. It looks like a beautiful trip. When we do this, we’ll have to Amtrak to the CA desert to pick up my sister and b-i-l, then on to the coast to pick up another couple, then north to SF to pick up brother and s-i-l, then onto Everett/Seattle to pick up 4 more families, sisters w/ spouses, brother w/spouse, single brother. We’re a crowd all by ourselves. So far, we’ve just talked about it but have done nothing.
