There was a state forming before the revolution called the State of Franklin near Georgia/Tennessee. A couple ancestors records show their birthplace as ‘the state of Franklin’. In their constitution no lawyer could be elected. They included preachers and teachers as well, IIRC.

That amendment said nothing about lawyers “in” government and got it pigeonholed.
