Soccer Mom: She's just a 'mom who happens to carry a gun'... everywhere

LEBANON PA--Some people have called Meleanie Hain a courageous defender of the Second Amendment. Others have referred to her in online forums as an "idiot" for taking her gun to her 5-year-old daughter's soccer game in Lebanon in September. Hain said she is "just a mom who happens to carry a gun ... everywhere."

When I attended the Republican caucus in the nineties, where I used to live in WA State, I was the only one in attendance without a concealed carry license.

I’m not against carrying weapons, and I know that there could be 1000 other situations at a kids’ sports game during which a gun would be useful, or even save lives, but what good would a gun have done in that case? The abductor was never actually seen by any of the adults in attendance at the game, which means that a gun or any other weapon that requires the target to be in sight before firing would have been ineffective.

It would have been one more option if someone did see the abductor.

“I have a CCW, but in no way do I believe that 90% of the population at large has the judgement, temperament and disposition to carry a gun. To believe otherwise is naive beyond belief. Not everyone should carry a gun; heck, not everyone should shoot a gun.”

So because people don't have the judgment to carry, they shouldn't be allowed to carry, and since they don't have the opportunity to carry, they can't learn to have the judgment...

At one time, in this country, nearly everyone carried. Accidents with firearms did happen, but they were rare. Murders and robberies did happen, but they were relatively rare, also. How did the situation change? Law enforcement stopped people from carrying in town, and that attitude spread. I think it needs to be reversed.

When most people in this country carried, statistics were not kept, so let’s not pretend like you know what you are talking about with hard numbers.

Because there are none.

If you have the $$$ to fight city hall, go ahead, I don't. So far, everyone in my supposed "open carry" state who does try it, goes to jail and has to hire a lawyer. Please go to your local mall wearing your shoot'en iron exposed and see what happens. If you have the right, go for it.

Local malls are private property, and the owners of that property have every right to prohibit any of their guests from behavior with which they disapprove.

I'm betting her lawsuit goes nowhere. I wish it would, but I doubt it.

I'll take your bet. Such lawsuits are historically successful in Pennsylvania.

We live in a paranoid world. I'll keep mine concealed. Once again, I'll keep my fight in the voting booth.

That's good for you, but not relevant to your original post. In Pennsylvania, citizens are allowed to open carry. Your posts suggest you didn't bother to read the article or make yourself aware of local laws before you posted.

I'm a big fan of open carry. It lets the bad guys no right away that they'll find easier pickings someplace else.

It may ward-off some impulse attacks by wimpier thugs, but I think it's wiser to not reveal your defensive capabilities. Why give the really nasty ba$tards the opportunity to plan a way of circumventing your defense?

There are advantages and disadvantages either way, I suppose.

And that is what makes life so darned interesting. Don't you agree?

Well it sure beats the alternative as far as I'm concerned.

It's mighty sad that the Soccer Mom's hubby didn't feel the same way.
That's how I happened across this old thread...
He apparently bumped off the Soccer Mom before shooting himself... but the kids are unharmed.
I was unfamiliar with the background of the story and followed links that somebody posted on this newer thread.
And since I haven't seen ya for a while, just thought I'd toss in a comment to say Howdy!

;^)
