Curved wings?
Angels have wings? How would one know?
Serephim and cherubim have wings; but angels?
Very good post, Star Traveller.
If an angel appears as a bright light with wings, I would not take it as one of God’s angels. I mean, simply reading and believing Biblical accounts would indicate otherwise.
A spirit of some kind? Oh, it could very well be. But people defining this image according to what they see in art work from big church ceilings certainly doesn’t indicate that this is one of God’s angels, does it.
Thanks, and I and my mother did have an angelic visitation (back when I was very small, about five or so). It was in the appearance of men, however..., and more like the kinds of angelic visitations that people do have in this world, even today. Angels usually don’t say too much. They are very sparse with their words, if there are any words at all...
And you don’t know, at first, that they are angels, but they do have something different about them that you don’t quite know what to think about, at the time (until later...).
When I was small and in Houston, I was at home with my mother (she was working around the house, in the middle of the day). I ran off and out of the house, one day and wandered many blocks away across two big streets carrying traffic into and out of downtown Houston. When my mother noticed me missing, she was frantic and didn’t know where I went. Being the prayerful mother that she always was (and the dedicated Christian that she always was), she immediately called upon God to help her find me.
When she saw I wasn’t around the house, she went out on the sidewalk (it was the middle of the block) and looked up and down to see if I was around. I wasn’t. But, after some more prayer, she saw, off in the distance (blocks away) two tall men walking with a small kid between them, holding hands with the child. As they got closer, she saw that it was me, walking in between the two very tall men (the “tall” is what she kept emphasizing over and over, when repeating the account of what happened).
They walked right up to her, never said a word and “handed me off” to her, at which point she bent down and grabbed and hugged me, along with a bit of scolding. And then, after a few seconds of that, she raised back up to thank the two men — but — they were not there. They had disappeared.
It was only a few seconds, and they were right in front of her, and when she looked back up again, they were nowhere to be seen, and she was out in the open in the center of the block on the sidewalk in broad daylight. There was nowhere for them to go.
And thus, that’s the account that my mom gave of two angels bringing me back to her.
As for me, I don’t remember the actual events, but only my mother telling me this, over and over again (she never tired of it...). I only think that one day I may see who those two angels were, whose hands I had in my hands, at one time in the past.
I believe those kinds of angelic visitations are going on all the time, and many times in ways that people don’t even know about or are aware of. So, know that angels do come and do God’s bidding and command, among us, on this earth — and it continues unto this day.
Ok, what’s your angel story.
If you tell me yours, I’ll tell you mine.
LOL..., just posted it... a few minutes before you asked... :-)
I once told a friend of mine that something about the way he talks at times seems as if he subconciously thinks he has been here longer than he should be. I asked if there was a reason. He then told me his mother had told him when he was about three there was a house fire. A black skinned man had carried him out of it and had safely handed him to a neighbor. No one knew where the man came from and he had disappeared just as quickly.
Clarence Oddbody?
Your story is beautiful. I believe in angels. With all that is happening in our world right now,I prefer to believe that an angel did visit the little girl and healed her.If misguided voters can believe that Obama is the second coming, I can certainly believe that this was an angelic visitation. And I know I am more correct in that than they are!
When sightings of angels or spitirual events occur ,I suppose it is human nature to want to discredit them. When Jesus returns, I’m curious as to how that will be reported!! Our minister last week made a statement during the service that has stayed with me. He said that most people are so willing to accept the babe in the manger ,but not the man on the cross...Gives you pause for thought in the scheme of things
There are many stories of those kinds of people coming from “somewhere” and then not sticking around to see what happens and no one knows where they come from.
I do remember one time that I (myself) could have been considered one of those kinds of people that came out of nowhere and then went away, no one knowing where I came from and not knowing where I went. However, I’m not an angel... :-)... but, this is a true story...
One time driving through Utah on a state highway in the middle of winter, about 5 or 6 in the morning (after having driven all night long), I stopped at a roadside restaurant with a filling station next door. That’s all that was around there (no population area and in the middle of nowhere...) It was about zero degrees (literally so) and I pulled into a parking slot of a guy who just pulled out of that restaurant parking lot.
When I parked and stepped out of the car, I had just one foot on the ground when I heard a terrible crashing noise, just about 100 feet behind me (on the main highway. The speed through the area was at full highway speeds, as this was merely a roadside stop and nothing more. A semi had crashed into that car which had just pulled out of the parking space I drove into. That car had pulled out in front of the semi which was going full speed down the highway and had smacked the car on the driver’s side, as the car pulled in front of it.
I spun around quick enough to see the semi braking hard, afterwards and the car was spinning in the road, like a top and kept spinning towards the other side of the road and spun around a telephone pole.
I ran out there to see how the driver was. The truck had stopped and he left it in the highway right where he stopped and got out and walked over to the restaurant; never went to see the car.
I got to the car and saw the guy was bashed up pretty good on his left side, was bleeding like crazy and I could see his head was split and his left side pretty bashed up. He was conscious though and I heard him mumbling, something like “I never saw him, I never saw him...”
Well, I ran back to the restaurant and stuck my head in the door and it looked like “business as usual” and nothing was going on. I hollered, while sticking my head in the door and said, “Someone call an ambulance”. (I mean, the truck driver was in there and I would have hoped it would have been done already). But, no one moved or budged to go to a phone. I hollered a second time, a bit louder and said, “Someone call an ambulance”. Again, no one moved or did anything. Well, the third time I *screamed* at the top of my voice (and everyone stopped dead... LOL...) and said “Someone call an ambulance!!” Well, a waitress moved towards a phone and started to make the call.
I ran back out to the car and there was no one there. No one had come out to see how the driver was doing. I knew that he couldn’t stay out in zero degree weather very long, so I decided to get him out of that car and into the fillling station, which was a bit closer (and hopefully warmer inside).
I asked him if he could get out, but he couldn’t move, so I pulled on the door which was crumpled but I was able to open it. Then I tried to pull the guy out as easily as possible and he had one arm over my shoulder and I led him across the highway, leaning on me and going slowly.
The people at the service station were just watching and doing nothing. And what surprised me greatly all during this time is that not one single person even came out there to see if there was anything to do — not at all — all during the time I was there.
I finally got him over to the service station and had him set down inside and asked them to help him while they were waiting for the ambulance to arrive. He looked in pretty bad shape so I wasn’t sure if he would survive.
After I did all that, I left and kept driving on down the highway. I never told anyone who I was, and I’m sure that no one saw where I came from and all they probably know is that I left afterwards, never to show up there again...
To this day I don’t know whether he is alive or died then. I hope he made it...
Did you 2 see the story on the news? I am just reporting what I saw. I have always thought angels appear to people
the way our imaginations picture them. My aunt saw them as little children
when she had a heart attack and nearly died. Another person I knew was shot and nearly died and he saw his
mother and believed her to be an angel. Maybe it is all perception?
Apparently both security cams caught the image and a cell phone image was also taken by the mother, hence the confusion. The staff also witnessed the image. Something happened there. The child was going to be taken off life support and the medical staff expected her to die as previous attempts to remove life support were not successful. This light shows up and the child recovers. Amazing.
Well, your story is more dramatic then mine, but there is a little simalarity.
When I was about 3 1/2 years old I contracted meningitis. I was in a coma for about 4 days and almost died. After I recovered, I returned home. My Mom would hear me talking to my imaginary friends about how ‘the angels took me up to see Jesus so he could make me feel better.’
Now, I don’t remember this time much, and it could be that I heard people talking to me while in my coma, but my Mom believes that I was relating what actually happened.
I don’t discount the reality that angels do interact with us, my only problem with angel stories is when people give the angels more credit than Jesus. It then looks like angel worship, and we all know that Satan can appear as an angel of light.
Well, anyway, I liked your story. Hope you have a great Christmas.
Well, I take my information about how angels are, from what I read in the Bible. From that, I can get clues as to how they appear. Just the fact that we are told that we can entertain angels unawares, tells me that they will appear in a way that makes it look like ordinary people. Other times we are told they appear in a form that is more impressive and glorious in their appearance, but those seem to be special times and not normally done that way.
And when I try and evaluate stories of angels, some criteria that I apply is that they don’t speak sometimes, but if they do, it’s very, very minimal and sometimes cryptic. They don’t interact extensively with people and act solely and totally as if they are on a *dedicated mission from God* with only one task at hand, at that moment and nothing else.
When they are done with their task (as God has specifically directed them), they are gone, quickly and almost instantly, without a word.
Also, the Bible has described men as always in the form of men. I don’t think I can recall a single instance in the Bible where angels are ever described in the form of a woman — never.
I’ve never seen an angel described, in the Bible, in the form of a child, either. Angels are the specifically created beings of God and He made them specifically the way they are and they are not shown or described as growing old or dying. They are immortal, in that respect (actually, we are immortal, too, as our souls go on forever and we will all be resurrected, saved or non-saved people — some raised up to everlasting life and others raised up to everlasting torment in the lake of fire).
Also, we have to keep in mind that the Bible tells us that Satan can disguise himself as an “angel of light”, too. So, that means we have to be wary about what we hear from angels — which is why I *do not believe* angels carry on conversations with people to tell them what to do or what to think. I think only the evil angels do that. I believe the angels from God avoid all of that.
So, it’s like we are told that *even* if an angel gives us another Gospel (other than what we have been given in the Bible) we are to ignore him. God’s angels don’t do that — but the evil angels that follow Satan do that...
Therefore, it’s not only the angels that God sends that we have visiting here, we also have the deceiving and evil angels who go around disguising themselves as “angels of light” in order to deceive people and draw them away from the Gospel of Jesus Christ...
You said — “I dont discount the reality that angels do interact with us, my only problem with angel stories is when people give the angels more credit than Jesus. It then looks like angel worship, and we all know that Satan can appear as an angel of light.”
Yeah, definitely true about Satan appearing as an angel of light.
The angels who are faithful to God appear to do only specific things that God has them to do and nothing more. They don’t hang around to “visit” unless they are on a mission from God and then they are gone, instantly, after that.
And, of course, they are not to be prayed to or worshipped, because they do the express bidding of God, Himself. We pray to Jesus Christ, who is our mediator before the Father in Heaven, in which the Holy Spirit helps us in our prayers in even praying for what we don’t even know ourselves....
The religious sees an Angel, the skeptics reflected light.
but if this was the original Star Trek I think Spock would say “Fascinating Captain, it’s pure energy”
I see reflected light on the monitor from an open door or open curtain or cabinet of a well lit area.
Thank you for injecting common sense and biblical truth to this discussion.
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Hebrews 13:2
If angels are seen by men, men would be unaware today that they are angels.
Obviously, if angels have wings (no Biblical authrotiy that they do; wings on angels come from Pagan sources and have been injected without authority in to some traditions of apostate Christendom), it would be difficult for them to be entertained “unawares.”
Study carefully 2 Corinthians chapter 11. Satan himself is TRANSFORMED into an angel of light.
Be very, very careful about flirting with “angels.”
Satan uses signs and LYING wonders to deceive men in their religiosity.
As evidenced by the recent charismatic movement. I just finished reading Charismatic Chaos by John MacArthur. It explained very well what I felt in my heart as true already and reinforced my own understanding of scripture. I think is must reading for refuting modern day false teachers and prophets.
