"Slingin" Sammy Baugh was my late, great old Pappy's alltime favorite football player and the only player I respect as an Honest to God Washington Warrior Redskin from the good old days when men were men and football players played 60 minutes a game.

Sammy in one game threw for 4 touchdowns and also intercepted 4 passes playing defense. I'd like to see either of the Manning Bros try that!

All others in DC since then... are just plain old Deadskins where they separate the men from the boys with tire irons and crowbars!

BTW How's 'bout dem Cowboys!

Exceprt frrom an article from a few yrs back: "Never mind all his athletic achievements. All the accolades. All the cheers and adoring applause. As he looks toward 91, what the old rancher values most -- besides family -- is a quiet horse beneath him, the land around him and the comfort and security of falling asleep in his own bed, every night, alongside a little short-haired dog."

Turning 90 today, Sam Baugh balks at being a 'living legend,' but likes living

RIP

That was 1943 against Detroit and his team won 42 to 20. It's a record that still stands today.

Sammy Baugh was a real Texan, born in Temple TX, went to TCU and died in Rotan, TX.

I’m not making this up.

Sammy lived in a garage apartment a stone’s throw from my house now.

For about 6 yrs, while he taught Phys Ed classes at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene TX.

Later on the place burned inside but the outside still stands. As I said, I can stand in my back yard and hit it with a stone. But I wasn’t living here when he lived here. Neighbors who lived here even before Sammy have told me about those days.

It is afterward that he lived exclusively on his Rotan ranch.

Both my parents sang the praises of Slingin’ Sammy to me and my brother as we grew up in Fort Worth. TCU was a big deal college then...even played in the Rose Bowl...and this man was legend.

So to find out that I live so close to where he did was an amazing thing to me.

You were a hero with feet of clay, Sammy, but your football exploits were as real and super-herioc as it gets.
