Whatever happened to the good ol’ days when we just accepted the fact that guys like Robert Plant and Roger Daltrey only ever hit those really high notes in the studio?

And the band compensated by tuning down when they toured. In this case, the guy literally can't sing in tune -- not just "can only hit the high note 6 out of 10 times."

I saw Plant during his '90 Manic Nirvana tour. I remember how much buzz there was the day after the show, because he could still nail every high note in concert. Back then, guys like him and Daltrey were only in their early 40's, but considered 'geezers' in rock-n-roll. They've lost more of their musical talent over the years than the Kanye Wests and Britney Spears of the 'pop' world will ever hope to develop, and they can still out-perform that pop trash.

Everybody is so concerned about being called out for lip-synching a la Ashlee Simpson and Britney Spears, they aren’t even using accompanying vocal tracks when they peform live like that.

I actually caught Kanye’s performance. Despite the fact that I can’t stand him as a person I find some of his music catchy. I commented to my husband during the first song that I bet Kanye wishes he used backup tracks during his performance. It was painful.

At the end of the day I don’t care if they get a little enhancement while on stage. They may have had 10 guitars on a studio track but certainly aren’t going to put 10 guitars on stage with them. Just have a recording to play a long.

The difference is that in the modern world they don’t even hit the high notes in the studio. These days there are so many digital effects they might not even be making sounds with their mouth, they can turn roach coach farts into Enya now... actually I think that’s how they made Enya in the first place.
