I know what you mean...I hate ‘arrogance’...although, I think you really need to look up the word ‘whiners’. What I do is ‘enlighten’.

Children are adopted. Dogs are purchased.

I take it that you have never acquired a dog from a rescue organization or the humane society. The process truly is an ADOPTION in every sense of the word, even though moeny changes hands.

I'm sorry, but I have had, and continue to have, both children and dogs. I never confuse the depth of my love and devotion to my children with that for my dogs.

That much of America can no longer distinguish the two is a metaphor for much that has gone wrong in this country.

I daresay that lyou got your dog some other way than through an animal organization. I had to be interviewed and undergo a home inspection and fill out a ream of paperwork and write an essay before I was allowed to pay $250 to adopt my wonderful Golden from Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin.

I have 4 wonderful children and 10 delightful grandchildren, but if I pass on or (otherwise) beome unable to care for my sweet Golden none of my children can have him. I had to sign papers that he would go back to GRROW so that they can find another suitable home (or my kids could go through all the home inspection / paper signing again.)

I call that a real “adoption”.

We even have dog “reunions” twice a year where we can gather for a party so the people who “fostered” our dogs can see them again and see how they are doing. Can you imagine a room, or a park, full of 100-200 Golden Retrievers of all shades and ages? It’s quite an experience!

And I’m not confusing the affection I feel for my dog with the love I have for my children and grandchildren. I’m afraid that you are Mr. UNlucky if you can’t tell the difference. ;)

You might be surprised, but a real life is much preferable to “dog reunions”.
