Mr. Chamberlain is "astonished at the pessimism" with which some of the critics of this policy of appeasement regard the results actully adchieved by it to date. His own judgment of these results is that they have been "milestones."

In a way he is correct.

In Britain, it appears “buyer’s remorse” set in very quickly after Munich. It was less than three months earlier that they reached the agreement. Even though most people in Britain were relieved at the time of Munich, they now realize they made a mistake. It was dawning on them that Hitler was a monster and would not be stopped by words.
