My grandfather would never have a Christmas tree in his house because he had read in the Old Testament that the pagans used to cut and bring in evergreen trees and branches out of the forest, decorate them with gold and silver ornaments and worship them like gods. In retrospect, I think he was pretty much right about it, although we never worshipped the Christmas tree.
