I never buy anything on a train now but instead pack some butties and drink as the train prices are a right rip off and crap and that is putting it mildly
Various efforts in several places have been made over the years to start a deluxe rail line modeled after the ones from the early part of the last century but most have gone out of business or have changed to 'garbage service' as it's apparently no longer financially viable to do things so nicely anymore. I understand that there's a deluxe line in Canada that follows a particularly scenic route that provides wonderful meals and a traditional rail travel experience....it may well be subsidized by the Canadian government, however.
